Well, it's a 100 level class, which means it probably has attendance requirements, I bet that's how most of those Fs came about.
yes, because it's all the professor's fault and the students are just victims. I'm so sorry that your college experience has been so rough.

it's a state school. if you've ever heard of "that's good enough for state work" now you know why.

That is the thing. Your answer is not good enough if it is not in the top 1% percentile. Suppose, I write a paragraph worth of information and another writes a page. I get half points. It's not simple as 2+2.

I mean, if there was an easier professor, my friend would've gotten a better grade. But, the dude just is bad luck when it comes to professors. I don't understand how they stay this long. Doesn't the university have a policy of failing so many students.
8/1/2008 6:07:00 PM
I had Heatwole for zo 150 and I got a b in there...one of the few classes I actually passed. Surprise, surprise, once of the few professors I actually learned something from.Just cause you get a bad grade doesn't mean your professor is bad....JUST SO YOU KNOW! All those review sessions that were held...all the questions on the test were given out.Everything he has on the tests are covered in class. [Edited on August 1, 2008 at 6:10 PM. Reason : ]

He is not a bad student either. Pretty smart. Now, he has lost all hope.
8/1/2008 6:08:55 PM
There is also the argument that universities have become lax on grading and give away A's too easily now for work that would have once warranted a C.[Edited on August 1, 2008 at 6:10 PM. Reason : the hardest classes are generally the ones you learn the most from]
8/1/2008 6:09:24 PM
Appeal that shit. Then you find out where he hides his bodies, and slowly expose them in front of him. Takes a while, but harming their perceived importance is best because most profs are egotistical assholes.
8/1/2008 6:09:30 PM
Sawash what was the year or semester you had him. You are not looking at the bigger picture. If half the class has a D or below, something is not right with the professor. [Edited on August 1, 2008 at 6:11 PM. Reason : Forgot something]

OMFG College is hard! Books have words instead of pictures!
8/1/2008 6:10:06 PM
spring '06Heatwole isnt one of the professors that will hand out grades, you really honestly have to deserve it. So obviously your "friend" thought they could just continue with their high school habits and thought they could pull it off in the end. I made that mistake too.[Edited on August 1, 2008 at 6:11 PM. Students pay for the opportunity and the space in a class, not for grades. You have to earn those.
8/1/2008 6:13:12 PM
just showing up to class is at least half the work
8/1/2008 6:14:24 PM
Plus he is so old. http://www4.ncsu.edu/unity/users/h/halfh/www/index.htmlCheck out the notes and Tests! I was like wow! How do they come up with this stuff? http://courses.ncsu.edu/zo150/common/www/schedule.html
8/1/2008 6:14:43 PM
half the work? WTF? how is that work? That should be a given.
8/1/2008 6:15:04 PM
students pay to LEARN.professors are paid to TEACH.poor grades are the reflection of a failure in that nexus. poor grade distribution over a long period of time indicates that the teacher isn't holding up his end of the bargain.
I really liked Heatwole. You know he ended up losing one of my test grades. I remember for a fact that I got a D on that test, it was my worst test all year. However, he e-mailed me and asked me if I had it. I told him that I didn't have it, and I didn't remember what the grade was.He then e-mailed me back and said that since I had next to perfect attendence and all my other test grades were Bs and I made an A on the final he told me he would give me the grade needed to have a final grade of a B on that test he lost. However, you have to go to his class and you have to study, and you have to go to the review sessions to be successful in his class.

getting back at Heatwole just cause "your friend" got a bad grade is really immature.
8/1/2008 6:16:44 PM
8/1/2008 6:16:59 PM
You don't pay to learn. You pay for the chance to do so. Learning requires work on your part.
8/1/2008 6:17:06 PM
8/1/2008 6:17:44 PM
Professors aren't paid to stand in a class room. Teaching requires work on their part.
8/1/2008 6:17:55 PM
Have you had the class, do you know that was what he did. It doesn't sound like it.
