My bf hates the show and puffed and sighed when I put it on last night. Within 10 seconds he was laughing hysterically and and saying "It would be really sad....if her crazy eyes weren't so goddam FUNNY!!" a) if those people were real drug addicts, the show would be a lot less interesting
b) i just love the way the cops show up and never arrest anyone.
c) addicts arent necessarily stupid. but youd have to be stupid to assume thats a documentary. i find it hard to believe that so many people are "catching on" but they dont seem to catch on until halfway through.

i can't say its fake, but i've seen very very few real drug addictions on there. the eating disorder people, maybe.... but the drug people, they're either fake or exaggerating.

i'm not trying to be a dick here, but i know for fact that at least with the drug addicts, most of them are not real. the eating disorder people could be, and i suppose the drunks could be. but i deal with enough drug addicts, counseling, and REAL LIFE interventions to know that these druggies on tv are not at rock bottom like they're portrayed.

not to mention the fact that A&E's producers have knowingly covered for liars in the past on other shows, and knowingly aired false information (see http://flipthislawsuit.com)

and seriously, like that one episode with the "meth head" where they sent the cops to the trailer, and they didn't arrest him on his probation violation or search him for drugs.... yeah right.

oh, don't get me wrong -- i understand editing where the producers show or dont show certain parts in order to put more attention on a certain thing, or where they only have 45 minutes to tell a story and dont completely explain something

my point is that A&E has been busted before for presenting fake/scripted/untrue scenes as reality...

and one thing that i think people are missing... one of the big stages of addiction/recovery is denial - and lots of these people "seem" to be in denial about their "addiction" -- yet they agreed to be in a documentary about their addiction? that's just not how it is, and i say this from my experience with drug addicts in recovery for the past couple of years. there does come a point where they'd be willing to go in front of people and admit it, and talk about it, etc... but when they're still addicts, and just transitioning to that "get help" phase, there's no way you're gonna get them on camera, especially not in a documentary about their addiction.

basically, based on what i have seen hundreds of times in real life, the whole premise of the show hinges on a concept that hardly ever plays out in reality.

i dont doubt the people have problems, i just find it hard to believe that they have big time problems.

yea, they had a heroin addict on there on one i saw.. the symptoms were dead on in both WD's and the itching, etc when he was f'ed up.. they did have one dude that was taking percocets that was a f'ing joke imo.. in "rehab" he was basically just sweating and had some diarrhea and was all freaking out about it--but had no problem sleeping the whole time
