http://www.somethingawful.com/d/news/feminism-rant.phpIt's a good read but long. Here are some highlights:The Patriarchy is Not Keeping You DownThe patriarchy likes to get together on Wednesdays at the YMCA (light refreshments provided) to talk about how much to cut women's pay for the week and think of new inherent male privileges to add to the ol' checklist.Another one of the patriarchy's main goals has been to put up barriers to education for women. But we must be doing a shitty job because there are more women in college than men. Ugh, I told you we should have put a wall scaling test in the application!Wage Disparity Exists, and Women Are Responsible For ItWomen are in fact paid the same as men for the same amount of work. What they fail to tell you is that men work more hours, work more dangerous jobs, are more willing to relocate, and are basically chained to a desk for most of their miserable lives.Preventing Violence Against Women is a Sexist MovementWomen like to tout that 95% of domestic violence is male on female. Sorry, we are just unable to control ourselves. The Hulk has taught us that any situation can be solved with violence. Stan Lee ruined a generation of young men.Hell, even lesbians are hitting their female partners, and not just the butch ones! I guess they really took the phrase, "Pick on somebody your own size" to heart. It's not like there are really reliable statistics on this subject. Unless a man is bashing on some chick, who cares, right? When Cancer Funding CompetesAlmost twice as much money is spent on breast cancer funding over prostate cancer funding, despite the fact that 100,000 more men got prostate cancer than women got breast cancer in 2007. There is such a large gap in funding even after 10,000 more men died of prostate cancer than woman died of breast cancer in the same year.Good read![Edited on December 11, 2008 at 1:30 PM. i agree with all the points from that article.GoldenViper on the other hand will have things to sayIn fact three of these four topics i've had issues with for quite some time.the first, clearly. its just as much an excuse as those who claim a global jewish cabal is what is preventing their rust belt state uneducated selves from getting the jobs and money they so justly deserve. the pay thing is ridiculous and i'm tired of hearing it, honestly. same job =/= same work. its that simple. painting it as such is full of logical fallacy.the hitting women thing is NOT one of the three with which i've had long time issues. women hit men all the time, but that doesn't make it okay for men to hit women. however, i do think the issue of female violence should be more commonly addressed. The cancer thing bothers me slightly. especially this year when i was at the breast cancer run and saw all these people displaying their sisterhood and unity. i asked my girlfriend who was running aftewards why she thought there wasn't a prostate cancer run. she paused for a while and then eventually said "because men don't make a big deal about things."[Edited on December 11, 2008 at 1:39 PM. Feminism Is A BusinessFeminism is the idea that women should be treated like children.Didn’t accomplish anything this time around, sweetheart? That’s okay. Give it another shot after we bend the fuck out of the rules.Scratch that. Feminism is the idea that women should be treated like spoiled children — who get do-overs and freebies until they’re chucking batteries at homeless people out the sunroof of their father’s BMW.Well-raised kids get stuck with Dick Soup if that’s what they ordered. Do-overs are not a part of man-parenting. Do-overs are for ladies.Feminism is the idea that women shouldn’t consider themselves happy unless they enjoy the same things men do — and that they should enjoy them at ten times the volume. Have you ever seen a woman pretend to like business or sports? If you have, then you’ve seen the very definition of an overcompensating attention whore. There isn’t a big screen on Earth that can drown out the “mating hoots” of a woman who’s convinced herself she likes basketball.Professional athletes thrive on the respect and worship of men like they were Greek gods. A respect that is so inherent to Sport it cannot even be understood without a penis. Ladies, unless they’re on top of you, you don’t mean shit to professional athletes. You’re embarrassing yourselves with this unwanted fandom. The idea of convincing someone to enjoy something more than they would otherwise might sound familiar to you. It’s called “marketing”.You like beer…but do you like Coors Light? You should.Personally, I don’t like Coors Light. I enjoy Boddingtons, Smithwick’s, Tecate, John Smith, Guinness, Imperial, MGD, and nearly any microbrew over 10% abv. But there are thousands of men out there who pay their mortgage every month just trying to convince me to add Coors to that list.Carl’s Jr: Fuck you, I’m eating.Feminism is powered by women who eat and feed themselves and their dozens of worthless cats with money made by maintaining and promoting the infernal machine that is feminism. There are women out there who make their living convincing young women to play sports. Otherwise, they lose their budget.Without feminism, Women’s Studies “professors” and ten thousand of the ugliest bitches on Earth would have to learn how to fuck properly in order to put a roof over their heads. Because what does life spent promoting women’s issues prepare you for? It’s technically not “marketing” because these dozy broads buy it by the trough. That makes it a cult.Feminism: the Cult of Do-OversEven if you swallow all the bullshit, “equality” is a task that has an end. However, if feminism ever achieves this imaginary task, thousands of know-nothing, over-educated bitches will be out of a job faster than their cats will resort to eating one another to stay alive in the real world. Feminism isn’t about achieving anything. It’s about staying in business.Feminism is about creating more feminist problems. If Richard Jewell had actually planted that bomb at the 96 Summer Olympics and then called it in so he would look like a hero — like Janet Reno said he did — feminism would be Richard Jewell.I bet they don’t even offer an introductory course on carpet munching in Women’s Studies. As far as I see it, pretending you’re half “lesbian” is the first requirement to being a feminist.Men love working our asses off. Men love stacking up our accomplishments and shoving them in everyone’s face — or sometimes not shoving them in everyone’s face, but still making sure that everyone knows they could be shoved in their face at any moment. That’s called “being the bigger man”. And that’s also something women can’t do. Men love partying, going out with our man-friends, and most importantly, sleeping around.Women don’t.Women like getting shit for free based on their looks, and as long as feminism doesn’t teach that, it’s a scam and a con and a cult. A cult of do-overs.If you’re one of these Daddy’s Little Princesses who thinks I’m full of shit because I’m teaching some manly analogue to feminism, go fuck yourself. I don’t care if men don’t agree with me. I don’t give a fuck if anyone agrees with me.I’ll make you guys a deal. If any of you don’t agree with me, go get a job in an office and get married to the sweetest, most caring, least likely to be a bitch in seven years while having at least two guys on the side that she secretly chats with on MySpace up until then, and then come see me in ten years with your opinion unchanged. You’ll be back, but it won’t be to gloat.I’ll be fucking feminism all week. It’ll be fun. Like fucking a girl with self-esteem so low she can’t tell the difference between love and not getting spit on.

In our field of work I know some companies that won't hire women to fill field engineering positions because they couldn't cut it or be as productive. I know it sounds terrible to say or think about but some jobs are men friendly and some are women friendly. Why should a company even think about hiring a less productive worker(man or woman) if they're trying to make money?

Privilege is one of the most intellectually bankrupt concepts to come out of the various social justice movements. The idea that you can size up a person's experiences, their difficulties, their opportunities simply by virtue of their skin color or genitalia should be sickening. It's stereotyping and generalizing at it's most base. But that's probably my white male cisgendered privilege showing, right? [Edited on December 30, 2013 at 1:30 AM. Reason : .]

I found this to be interesting... You do see a lot of "breast cancer this... breast cancer that..." I'm not downplaying any form of cancer. I think of all the advertisement, Breast Cancer takes the number 1 spot of attention. There's a ton of adverts that say "protect your skin!" but they don't come out and mention skin cancer directly. Then there's even fewer prostate cancer stuff.2010 Cancer report from the American Cancer Society:http://www.cancer.org/indexhttp://www.cancer.org/acs/groups/content/@epidemiologysurveilance/documents/document/acspc-026238.pdfEstimated New Cases: Total (Men/Women)Breast: 209,060 (1,970 / 207,090)Prostate: 217,730 ( 217,730 / 0)Estimated Deaths: Total (Men/Women)Breast: 40,230 (390 / 39,840)Prostate: 32,050 (32,050/ 0)[Edited on December 30, 2013 at 1:54 AM. ^^It's not so much genitalia as gender presentation, and yes that is your white male cisgendered privilege showing: The concept of privilege didn't just come out of thin air in the past few years but rather it's a long-standing concept from sociology, describing the unearned, unsought, and often unacknowledged (by beneficiaries) advantages that people have based on the characteristics of the identifiable groups that they belong to and only readily noticeable by those who lack those advantages. The first cogent description of the mechanics of privilege from a beneficiary of it dates to 1988, "White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack" by Peggy McIntosh (although Black writers had written about it before and were not taken as seriously, being seen as whiny or, in earlier eras, "uppity"): http://www.nymbp.org/reference/WhitePrivilege.pdf
12/30/2013 5:03:08 AM
I didn't say it was recent, and I grant that sociologists have been using the term for a while. It's widespread use (as well as rampant misuse of the word oppression) is a product of social justice movements of the last 30 years.I can admit that I personally have had advantages due to my outward appearance, and I'm certain there are many times when it has worked to my disadvantage. I'm not denying that these invisible systems exist.I'm decrying the usage of privilege and oppression to describe these systems and make assumptions about people's individual experience....
12/30/2013 9:01:30 AM
This is something I posted about privilege on another thread:Let's take the Boston bombing. One way to look at this is to say "this was a tragedy and we need to stop it". Another way is to say "recognize your privilege of not being bombed". The first conversation would lend itself to conversations around why the bombing happened, and what we can do to keep others from happening. The second would cause much stupider conversations like "Do you want everyone to be bombed?" or "But bombings happen other places too!" or "I didn't have anything to do with the bombing!". Do you see how one causes useful conversations and the other causes stupid ones? It's because one conversation focuses on the people involved in being bombed or doing the bombing. The other places the focus on some removed third party. It's like trying to put out a fire by cleaning away the soot.Apparently the idea of privilege is taught as the cornerstone of all social interaction to anyone in any sort of soft-sciences class in college when it is actually navel-gazey at best and a complete derailment at worst.

AHA, I am a professional at unpacking the invisible knapsack of white privilege. I think I've been required to do it at least a half dozen times. I would like to win an award for it and thank God, my family, and Peggy McIntosh for holding my hand through the extraordinary challenge. But I'm now the proud owner of Urban Armour band-aids--the medium shade goes best with my tan. So I have to cross that off my list of "insights" into white privilege. I'm going to need something fresh to demonstrate how thoughtful and evolved I am.

Because idealization isn't about what consumers want, it's about what society wants you to want... You don't like what's in comics, make your own damned comic and see if people buy it.
