dreamhost.com gives you unlimited storage and bandwidth and i dont think they care if it's adult-oriented or not, as long as you don't break any laws.

I've heard of naked hosting; looking into extreme-hosting.net as well. I've heard a lot of good things about naked hosting, between the porn site blogs, and misc sex industry-related blogs. Right now, z sounds like a kid at christmas while looking at naked hosting.

The rep at 1and1 that I talked to seemed quite sympathetic to what I was wanting, so I think he'd have mentioned them.

So...update

the 1and1 guy called, said that if we remove all penetration pictures, we'd be compliant.

But pictures like this are fun!


Basically, he's cool, works in the right dept, and wants us to stay on, and said he'll work with us should this ever happen again. But the concern is that if it's happened once, it'll happen again, and continue. I don't mind calling each time...it got unlocked very quickly.

We shall see.

The new provider (okay with adult content) has a problem with pictures being up on boobiepie that we don't have a license for. (copyright issues)

I have this on the front page, in a CYA attempt (knowing it by far doesn't cover everything copyright-related, but 1) shows we're willing to comply with copyright regulations 2) not stealing*)

Z and I make no money off boobiepie, at all. We had kind of hoped that it'd stay small enough that copyright wouldn't be an issue...it's pretty clear we're rather benign

I suspect this is the big issue, although they also seem to take umbrage at users being able to upload pictures (and may be also considering this to be file sharing?)

So...anyone have any suggestions? I know at one point, mellocj was oft named in threads as someone to contact, but he might not be able to help, since we have adult content.

*Some may argue that simply hosting the work of other people is stealing, and I'm not getting into that argument. We are hosting pictures we like, with two other main features: opening that to the public, and allowing other people to host things they'd like to share.

That same day, we started the transfer of boobiepie to another service. In the coming days, we kept getting repeated notifications that we were violating their TOS by hosting adult content...1and1 was the holdup. Begin unpleasantness.

I just got two calls from a collection agency.

Digging deeper, turns out Z fucked up on the billing end (DUE TO AGE! ), but 1and1 never even bothered to let us know via snail mail (the requirements of which, if any, I'm looking into right now) that the acct faced collections. They never tried to call us; they sent one email (but four messages to the control panel of the domain that Z didn't transfer ) on 12/22/2009.

They sold this account to a collections agency yesterday. Less than 60 days after saying 'hey, there's been a problem with your payment method' (turns out it was an expired card on file). Nice, fellas.

On another note, we're still looking for a hosting service that will let us host boobiepie.com/gallery, with adult content, and allow hotlinking, and isn't $$$$. It's been languishing, and I know some of you have noticed, and this does bother me. So if anyone knows of anything...

More: Upon research, while the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (if you don't know the ins and outs of this piece of legislation, do yourself a huge favor and read at least the wikipedia article on it - know thy rights) is a wonderful thing, it does not require the original creditor to notify you they intend to send an account to collections, nor is there a required minimum time period for trying to get payment. So, unless a state law prohibits it, 1and1 could have sent this to collections after just a day, if they so chose. The more you know. (financial institutions do have more rules to play by here, though)
