At a family gathering this weekend, a school nurse present (who also doubles as an admin asst sometimes) was telling us of some of the crazy names she sees kids registered with.

La-q was one of them. They asked the mom what is was short for, and she said it wasn't short for anything. It's her daughter's name. It's pronounced la-dash-eek.

what's the fourth character in the name?

A hyphen. Sometimes called a dash.

ok.. i've heard a similar story, but it was La-A and pronounced "la-dash-uh"

my mom works at an elementary school and she registers new students.... she sees a LOT of crazy names.... the one that sticks in my head is Shithead pronounced "Sheh-theed". He was from Turkey, I think. Poor kid.

I went to school with a kid named Stainles Steele. Why would you do that to your child?
