I'm paranoid and overcautious, and already have someone on the way out.

(Last night, the unit was creaking, squeaking, and sounding like a bird chirping. So I called my uncle [he does HVAC work, among many other things] last night just in case)

Don't do like I did when mine went out. I went and bought a window unit from Wal-Mart and woke up the next day with the worst ear infection of my life.

Actually, I woke up fine. Went to work, felt fine. By lunch I felt like someone was sticking an icepick in my ear. By 3PM I couldn't even turn my head or open my mouth.

The Doctor attributed it to the window AC unit.

The only reason I got the unit was because my property management company said it would take them 3 days to fix it, and they told me that on the hottest day of the year last summer. It was like 98 IN MY HOUSE!

Did he give an explanation for this conclusion?

That might be a temperature at which AC repair is considered an emergency, and the state/city may have defined an acceptable timetable for getting it fixed; any time outside of that window may have been something you could have reported the landlord for.

^ trust me, I know. Needless to say I a month's free rent by the time I was through

and he said that those AC units produce a lot of water, and most likely since I had it in the window so close to my bed that I got some water vapor down in my ear while I was sleeping.

perhaps in the imagination of a person volunteering for morbid obesity this is the case

um, that is way off.

a/c units remove moisture from the air. its why they have drains

you remember being in the hotel room with a shitty window unit, right? the air is not conditioned in the way that a full size typical air conditioning unit would. it's always damp as hell.

its how a/c units work. even the ones that sit in the middle of the room

It spit out little chunks of ice too

but keep in mind this was a $100 AC unit, so I didn't expect much from it other than getting me through 3 days.

that may be the intention of the air conditioning unit, but there are always crappy ones out there that can't perform the job properly. and the small/window units are usually in that category.

an air conditioner cannot work by producing humidity. if there was no drain plug there is a pan on the bottom.

dear god im not going to fucking explain this. its not debatable.

you don't have to explain anything to me bro. i really don't care how an air conditioner is supposed to work, i just know that this motherfucker was wet and spit out little chunks of ice.

grace, i know exactly what you're saying, but remember that cooling air actually raises the relative humidity (to 100%, at which point the water vapor begins to condense and it remains at 100% relative humidity)

but i'm sure you learned all that in your thermo class when you covered pschometrics, right?

new fan and/or motor (I wasn't really paying attention ) will be installed tonight

Apparently, 23 years is old for an AC unit, but it still works great (this is the first problem we've had with it in several years). Though they smoked like chimneys and left cigarette residue all over the damn place, the people who owned the house before us took very, very good care of it

It's not for lack of trying on Kiwi's part. As soon as Ambrosia responds she'll start her whole "I'm the victim here" thing again and tell us how we're all riding Ambrosia's nuts.
