Parachuting accidents are rarely reported correctly in the media. Some info from people who were actually there:

Quote :
"Leave it to the "sensational" news media to get it wrong again Mad. The accompanying jumpers DID NOT leave until they were directed to by local law enforcement.

Get well soon! "

Quote :
"This was not a Bandit Jump, There were 4 total jumpers exiting on a low pass over the beach. A ground crew was present on the beach with a wind sock and for crowd control. All jumpers had visited the landing site and discussed pattern, winds, exit order, ect... prior to boarding the aircraft. Everything was done properly. "

In short beach jumps are normal there, I've landed on that beach at least a dozen times and the guy in question had about 200 jumps and tried a maneuver he had no experience with and bit it. It would be like taking a turn in a car going 80 mph without ever having driven 80 mph or taking a turn at 40 mph first.
