8/27/2009 4:39:54 PM

8/27/2009 4:40:11 PM

agreed. no one goes to hillsborough street except college kids and hobos. and indians. dot, not feather.
8/27/2009 4:56:01 PM
They know they're getting the college crowd, it'd be impossible not to. And if there's a big crowd around at midnight, he's obviously not gonna close down. All stuff they're figuring out as they find their niche in the Hillsborough market. Personally I'd end up there a lot more often if they did discourage the young kids somehow, might make that end of Hillsborough worth visiting again. anyway it's a really chill spot with a comfortable deck and good food. definitely check it out.
8/27/2009 5:04:17 PM
man i havent been to H-Boro in awhile. Always stick with my crowd at Bada/Ruckus when i come to visit. Perhaps i'll make it out there next weekend
8/27/2009 5:09:33 PM
a gift wrapped turd is still a turd
8/27/2009 5:21:32 PM
if they didn't want the cheap, college student crowd then why did they decorate the building with the luau aisle from party city?
8/27/2009 5:28:49 PM
IT'S MY BUILDING - I DO WHAT I WANT
8/27/2009 5:30:25 PM
do they have hamburgers with grilled pineapples on them?
8/27/2009 6:21:01 PM
one of my friends works at brickhouse and told me several months ago that the owner of the big kahuna was in there talking to one of the bartenders and said he had been going to several of the bars/restaurants on hillsborough and was talking with the employees there about the area. he said that he wanted to attract an older crowd and close up at midnight. i heard about this back in maybe february or march, so maybe the guy's plans changed. i hope for his sake that they did because it's not exactly in a very good spot to attract an older crowd.
8/27/2009 7:24:09 PM
i'm lookin at the logo and i'm thinkin that they're trying to attract the corona-drinkin shaggy-haired shorts-wearin flip-flop dude crowdi'm not hating... that's just what comes to mind

ate there for dinner tonight, its really small but it seems pretty chill. the porch will be a nice place to eat when its not raining. they were out of sweet potato fries but the big kahuna burger was good (a little salty though). i hope they aren't planning on throwing away late night money, its got a decent layout for being a bar (plenty of standing room if they push a couple tables back) the windows behind the bar are actually doors that open up so it makes the place really open and seem a lot bigger. should be a good place for cool summer or fall evenings.
8/28/2009 7:13:57 PM
had lunch there today. I like the layout and indoor/outdoor bar. the place has a lot of potential. if the closing at/around midnight is true, I don't think they'll last long at all. There are a few areas where they need to improve:1.) Hide some fly traps somewhere or have torches.2.) They had a lot of empty taps - where the hell is the beer?3.) The staff seemed unhappy/put out. I'd prefer a more upbeat staff4.) Where are the TVs?5.) Turn up the music. Barely audible music is annoying6.) Improve customer greeting/beginning of service. There were three groups there (including us) for a total of about 10 people. We were the only ones inside, the two bartenders/servers were behind the bar and we sat there for about 5 minutes before being noticed. [Edited on August 29, 2009 at 5:18 PM. Reason : .]

I will forever boycott anything related to that building and to the farmhouse due to the farmhouse's takeover of Cantina, Raleigh died a little that day
