Yes, i know TWW is not a blog, but i need to vent.

I was driving my girlfriends ford escape to pick her up for the airport this evening and hit something on I-40 while it was pouring and had a blowout.

With help from my roommate and a state trooper who was awesome, got the tired changed in the pouring rain.

As my roommate and trooper pull off, i go to start the car to get going to the airport, only to find that the battery died while leaving the lights/hazards on during the tire change.

FML

[Edited on September 8, 2009 at 12:40 AM. Reason : wont ever be too lazy to get gas in my car again. i can change the tire on that with the quickness]

on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being complete non-issue and 10 being catastrophe, that's about a 1.2.

get the fuck outta here. if that even registers as more than the faintest of blips on your suck-RADAR, you can count yourself as fabulously lucky.

I just put sodium silicate in the oil filler of your car and your girlfriend's car to show you what an internet worthy FYL (level 3 of 10 or worse) is really about.

Really? I mean it sucks, but if that's an 8.4 than that doesn't leave much room for stuff that should be a 10, like walking in on your dad giving some guy a BJ.

lots of TUFF in this thread.

granted its not as bad as say being killed, but it also sucked hairy balls to be changing a tire in the pouring rain and then having the battery die as everyone pulled off.

better me than her though, cause she would have been waiting til AAA pulled up

I don't know, situations like that give you a chance to be TUFF, which is exactly why they aren't that bad. It works the same way for times when you have to trudge through snow and mud, or kill something.

OK...I just put my truck and my jet ski up for sale (and have never had any problem with either of them). Last weekend, the air conditioning shit the bed on my truck. I then trailered my jet ski down to Beaufort to launch it, and had my buddy ride it up to Atlantic Beach to meet us. While I was riding it later that day, the CEL illuminated and the engine shut off. I got it running again long enough to limp back to shore. I then illegally drove my truck down Atlantic Beach to retrieve the jet ski. We got the ski loaded onto the trailer, but the breaking waves caused us to thrash the hull against the trailer and put some nasty gouges in it in several places. We finally got it out of there, then got stopped by an A.B. policeman just before reaching the beach access point. He didn't give me a ticket, but insisted that my buddy walk ahead of the truck as a ground guide--this limited us to a walking speed, which is no way to make it through loose sand. Sure enough, we got stuck, and were stranded there for several hours with my 2-year old, until finally we got a tow truck to winch my truck out (at a cost of $230). My wallet got thrown from my truck and ruined due to an episode of axle hopping while trying to get un-stuck. We finally got home really late, after missing our dinner plans, and got up ass-early the next morning to go to work.

That sucked. I'd rate that a solid 2.5.

I wouldn't say that. I know I've had a fucking awesome life so far, but I've had enough legitimately shitty stuff happen to know that a goddamn flat tire and dead battery are no more than a minor inconvenience.

So if your cat gets diarrhea on your couch its like 1.5, but if its labor day its as bad as permanently loosing your hearing in one ear, or getting shot in the knee?

^^nah i'm just saying these are 2 different kinda problems. dukes shit is all long and not so simple. this guys prob was pretty simple, just really sucky for labor day at night in the rain

[Edited on September 8, 2009 at 1:06 AM. Reason : .]

so i guess this guys prob was a 9.5 on the minor inconvience scale, and dukes long prob was a 2.5 on the large problem scale

yeah, its not like it was life threatening, although i was a little nervous on the shoulder of I-40W. just sucked that i thought this was gonna be a routine trip to the airport and back and all the other shit happened along the way.

If were just talking about annoying shit that ruins your day, i guess this is a 4. And that's comparing it to the time I got stranded on a ranch in New Mexico in 10ยบ and below weather for the end of Friday and most of my Saturday after working all day.

^^ nah blue with PA tags.

i drive a prelude and i've had a couple flats that i changed within about 20 mins. hers was a little different because we couldnt get her jack to stay in place on the left rear. even the trooper's jack wouldnt get the car off the ground, so it took the 3 of us about an hr from start to finish.

kinda gave me a newfound respect for troopers, he could have just kept moving along, but he was on his hands and knees in uniform in the rain trying to get the car jacked up too

^^ does it have to be able to happen to anyone? I think there's quite a few people who have worked on a crew of some sort that travels out to the remote ranch/crop land and comes back at the end of the work day.

on the suck-o-meter 0-10 (patent pending, those damn hookers!) this should rate in the sub 1 range....

10 would be flinging oneself in front of a train, and living, after finding out your wife of 20 years has been fucking your dad/bestfriend/sister for all that time and whatever children you have aren't yours, getting laid off or fired, losing all of your money and investments, having your house burn down and it having been found your fault (a candle or something) with all your possessions along with the rest of your family inside it, and your car being crushed by a tornado blown tree.

0 would be nothing unpleasant happened at all.

anything above 5 includes something permanent (disfigurement, dismemberment etc)

At least you know how to fix a flat... it amazes me how many people don't. I don't know a damn thing about cars but I at least know how to put on a spare tire.

You should have your man card revoked for needing another dude and a cop to help you change a tire.

Seriously though, I would love to hear the way that conversation went with your roommate. If one of my roommates ever called me to help them change a tire, I would have busted out laughing, called them a pussy, and hung up.
