I remember when this happened. The crazy guy that was working with me at the Ford dealer pulled up in a car and asked me what the Pentagon was. I sort of shook my head and said, "It's the largest government building in Washington DC." Then he said, "Oh! A plane crashed into it!" He wasn't the brightest person I have ever met.

till this day, i am still saddened and baffled when i see pics of people jumping from the towers

i just don't see it as something logical to do. ok, when you are in that state of mind, logic usually goes out the window (pun unintended... but i see now that's funny ), but what were the motivations of those people who jumped?

1) were they choosing a less painful/horrible way to die? if so, i don't see how that's the case. sure, you are standing against the window, and flames are just a few feet away from you and there is no other escape. but jumping a 1,000 FEET??? how is that less painful or horrible? ok, actually, it IS less painful. you just jump and close your eyes... and then you are dead without you even knowing it or feeling any pain, whereas dying by burning to death is very painful. but how does one muster the 'courage' to look down and see the road and cars and leap from such a height???

2) or perhaps they thought they could survive the fall? of course, that's not possible, even if the firefighters had prepared a soft landing of some kind.

now, i am not saying i won't jump if in the same situation. burning to death would be terrible. and i am a thrillseeker... so maybe if i knew that i had to die one way or another, i would theoretically choose jumping, because that would be one awesome ride all the way down! but, i am not sure i would be able to actually push myself off... that takes some major balls. perhaps once the flames reached me and burnt me a bit, i might do it? i don't know.

anyone else think/thought about this as much as i do?

p.s.

1) i wonder if those who jumped kept their eyes open most of the time, or closed.

2) someone told me once that when planes crash, a majority of people actually die before the plane hits the ground/water from looking out the windows and getting cardiac arrest. whether that's true or not, i wonder if that happened in the cases of people jumping from WTC. i guess this is one of those things us humans will never come to know. imagine doing a study to find this out with live suicidal subjects

people who jump from buildings generally die of cardiac arrest too, so in both cases the person is literally scared to death. we'll never know whether the people who jumped knew that or not, but i guess if you know you're gonna die and you can end it yourself rather than be engulfed by flames then you'd go the DIY path.

I read an article yesterday that Charlie Sheen is a big proponent of the movement that thinks our government lied about 9/11 and who was behind it.

This saddens me, because I really like Two and a Half Men, and now I dont think I can watch it anymore.

are you really that ignorant that you'd not watch a show you liked because the actor doesn't have the same political views as you?

Oh boy, it's 9/11.

That special day on TWW where all the social inepts, immature faggots, people who were not affected by the day in any way and trolls come out to make fun of the 1,000's who died!

Yay!

This. You either get smoke asphyxiation or be knocked unconscious before you hit the ground and only have the initial terror of imminent death.

jackleg - its not so much ignorance as it is principle. Its the enterntainment industry, and nearly every actor out there shares a very different political opinion than I do. This one is just too far fetched for me.

Fixed it for ya.

Not a huge Sheen fan... but if they brought him back for a proper sequel to The Arrival, I'm definitely there.

the people jumping are the worst part. i think it's because it kind of puts a face on the whole thing, where otherwise it just seems like a building fell and x number of people died. realizing jumping from a skyscraper is your better alternative would be a horrible situation to be in. I cant imagine being nearby and watching bodies fall from the sky...

I have heard of skydivers surviving after their shoot didn't open and they hit the ground, so it came down to this...

If you jump there is a 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% chance that you are going to die. If you camp by the fire there a 100% chance that you are going to die.

it goes much deeper than just the bush administration. i'm sorry i have to say this, but the presidency is nothing more than a figure head position. the president has no real power, he's nothing more than a puppet. and while people are arguing about it's all bush's fault or something is all obama's fault, and so on, there's some much deeper shit going on behind the scenes.

don't believe anything you hear and half of what you see. at the same time, don't disregard any information without thinking about it critically and with an open mind. there's a lot that can't possibly be explained about what happened with the amount of evidence that has been covered up. i think it's very healthy to have questions about what happened and it's necessary that we ask them. nobody has all the answers and if they say they do, they're lying.

People who jump from buildings die of massive internal injuries period and jumping over concrete from 1000 ft will result in death 100% of the time. The stories you here of skydivers surviving usually have something out even if the parachute is malfunctioning they are going significantly less than 100 mph and other times the incidents aren't relating to parachutes not opening at all but rather a landing problem that the public can't comprehend because they think of skydiving accident = parachute not opening (which is not the case). The cardiac arrest thing is bullshit to make you feel better about how gruesome it actually is. They probably were spaced out and visually/sensually overloaded. Most people in freefall the first time space out to some degree. A lot of survivors of suicide describe feelings of bliss as they were coming down.
