What's around there that's fun to do?

I'm going out there for 7 weeks...probably only get maybe 1 day per week off, but I want to do some fun stuff while I'm there.

If I can get some other people to join me, I wouldn't mind renting dirtbikes or ATVs and going out to the dunes. That's about the only cool thing I know of in that local area.

I dunno but my parents friends own the movie theater there... I say 'the' because when it first was around, it was the only one in town. Of course things may have changed but it's pretty big and since the owners actually work in the ent. industry, they have a lot of cool props and shit from movies. Of course I've never seen it cause I've never been there...but I knew one day I'd get to tell someone that I knew something to do in Yuma and now I've finally gotten my chance. yw

Take the train out there. There is one that runs around 3:10 every day.

Drive really fast on the highway.

If you had more time off, i'd say go to san diego.

My friend had a blast out there. She slept with a bunch of army guys while there on a work project for Lockheed.

Haha. Under the "Do" section it's completely blank. Good luck.

Looks like there's plenty of strip clubs and mexican bars.

that's quite a feat to perform at a Naval Air Station.

Yuma also has some sort of high altitude jump school that some of the Amry SF guys use if i remember correctly...I think it's out at the Yuma proving grounds though.

OH YES. Sand Dawg might be my favorite city ever to go to.

It's now a MCAS.

haha, I'm not a fan of hoggin', but in general, I'd say that company-grade aviators rage just as hard as the Marines downstairs...just on a bigger budget!

...so I can't find anywhere in Yuma that rents dirt bikes or dune buggies, but there is a place that rents ATVs. They have 250ex and 450r Hondas for $25 and $35/hour, respectively. They come with trailers, gas cans, and riding gear. The only thing is that none of our rental cars have a trailer hitch, so we'd have to rent a truck for the day, as well as all buy dune permits (I think they're like $40/day...so an afternoon of riding the dunes will get kinda pricey by the time it's all said and done. I think I've got a couple of people talked into it, though.

another guy had the idea of renting motorcycles and riding up to the grand canyon during the one 2-day weekend we're scheduled to get out here (we're generally working 6 days per week). There's nowhere in Yuma that rents bikes, but numerous places around Phoenix (which is a couple of hours away, but in the general direction of the grand canyon). He's a sportbike rider like me, but I think he wants to get a Harley. I'll ride Harleys if that's what everyone else really wants to get, but I'm gonna try to convince them to go for a V-Strom, KLR, or BMW GS...that way, we can head off of the paved roads if we find any trails or anything out by the grand canyon.

if we have any other free time, we've thought about floating down the colorado river and drinking beer. i just picked up some Mothership Witbier today, so I'm ready.

so a couple of days ago, I came home from the squadron at 5:30 pm. It was 110 degrees outside. I went to dinner, hung out, then talked to the gym at 9:30 pm...it was still 100 degrees.

last flight out here, other than flying home.

Yuma wasn't nearly as bad as I expected, by my bar was set low, haha. I don't think I'll miss it.

not next year--our squadron won't be supporting either WTI class due to the Afghanistan deployment. I guess it's possible that I could come out the following year, but I think I will have rotated out into my B-billet before then.
