Its pretty much fair game to say " you did that like a faggot" in public or "don't let your daughter go to the mall because there are lezbians there" or "this is so gay" everythings gay or fagity fag faggots. I've heard two public officials use the word faggot or gay in public.

In Miami and LA this type of homophobia is unacceptable and calling someone a faggot is almost up there with the N word. I think thats a bit overboard but the south is the complete opposite end of the spectrum. I know its the bible belt and the bible says its wrong but taht doesn't mean go around insulting them. Its almost hypocritical. Its also amazing how everything is so different in the south vs Miami and LA.

Using your line of reasoning, I grew up in a town where everyone got along really well. It was a small town, about 50/50 black white. It was in North Carolina. Racism wasn't a "clear" issue to me until I was well into college. Mostly because I was older and exponentially more aware of my social surroundings.
