Instant death in the '59 Bel Air, slight knee injury in the '09 Malibu!

yeah, the survivability rates in accidents increased dramatically after 1968 when they started requiring a collapsible steering wheel/column

it was pretty bad before then. chances of the steering wheel/column going through your chest in an accident were pretty high

The other day a co-worker got in a low speed accident which nearly totaled his car. I said well, today's cars are made to crumple - not like those tanks from the 70s. And this guy said that's why he believes the old cars were safer! he's a mechanical engineer

^^^ and probably made good grades, but without ever actually understanding anything. I used to get so tired of those people who were great students and/or had no life whatsoever and just studied constantly, but weren't all that smart. They had better grades, but I could've engineered circles around most of them.

I mean, holy fucking impulse, Batman.



Anyway, I wish they would've picked something less cool than a '59 Bel Air to roll up into a ball.
