Yesterday afternoon a flight of stairs collapsed with me on the top step. I caught myself on the rails just enough so that a wheelbarrow was enough to break my fall below. I endured no serious injuries, but I'm still in some sort of shock that I can't recall experiencing before.

I know this shit isn't extraordinary, happens to everybody. So share your stories and make me feel better!

It's called shock, it happens...

I've been in high speed accidents (read traveling 70 mph into a stationary accident), being lifted up in the air 100ish feet by a gust of wind and a sail, had a boat do summersualts w/ me tethered to it, been blindsided by a beam and knocked of the side of the boat, and more...

but the worst and probably only shock I've had was from dropping something on my damn foot.

Oh, and from friggin bee sting (that shit hurts more than I remembered from when I was little).

Okay, not nearly the amount of attention I was expecting.

But it's enough to get by on.

Seriously, the motherfucking stairs collapsed!!!! It's still setting in.

I'm trying to figure out where you were goin on a flight of stairs that broke a top step, there were rails present, and a wheelbarrow broke your fall.

Either way, trauma, yes. It sucks but you move forward. Like all things in life, count your blessings ya know.

^^Deck stairs. The stairs and the railings were apparently connected to the deck separately. The entire casing of stairs came loose from the deck, and a wheelbarrow that was on its side beneath the stairs broke the fall. I didn't realize i had managed to grab onto anything on the way down until this morning--my arms are on fire and my wrists are scraped up.

I honestly can't think of any accidents that have been truly traumatic in my life. Maybe I've blocked them from my memory

It was just a normal day, and I was messing around on the computer. Suddenly, I got this really weird message from some stranger... as if I was being warned of future events. A bunch of weird stuff started to happen after that, and before I knew it, I was unplugged. It turns out that I, along with most people, had been plugged into a 'matrix' of sorts. Now that I was unplugged, I was fighting computer agents with a group of renegade soldiers... doing somewhat superhuman moves in an attempt to thwart the evil computer system.

Building a roof and the scaffolding collapsed from under me. The ground was 35 feet or so below me. When I felt the scaffolding dropped, I just reached up and grabbed. I was hanging from the rafters that I had been putting up. I was fine, but when I got home I started to realize how bad it could have been.

Broke my ankle playing volleyball.

Didn't even hurt bad when it happened, but I still look away when they show replays of leg injuries in football.

The stairs you were walking on collapsed, now, I'm sure you understand what the people went through when the WTCs came down.

I got hit by a car going about 30 mph, on my left hip.. Rolled over the car and landed in a ditch on my back

Had a 2nd degree burn last year

Pushed a car out of a hole at my old internship - it was in neutral and I was just trying to do it myself but realized after it started rolling down the hill that I probably should have had someone with me by the time I jumped in the truck it was either hit a tiger cage or hit a tree, so I swerved and hit the tree. My left leg had been hanging out the door, so when I hit the tree the impact caused the door to shut on my leg. I have a permanent bruise (the doctor said the color will always been that way and it will most likely always be sort of stiff from the hematoma) and I had a bolt from the inside of the truck door go into my leg right above my ankle.

Oh I forgot to add another.. I got bit by a cat freshman year, thought it was no big deal, just a normal infection.. I went to the doc, she took a sharpie and drew a circle on my hand (a little past the redness) - she told me if I saw the redness go past that point, I should go to the ER immediately and my hand could have to be amputated. That was pretty fuckin scary

I had a dog in a park on a leash tear up and off part of my left knee all the way to the bone.

I also had a parrot bite through my right nostril.

Nah... never growing past small midget height and having the elbow of an 80 year old arthritic woman did though. And that first accident (not the one where anyone died) still makes my sister very nervous driving when it's night.

I got a bad sunburn while snorkeling in the south Pacific. Now I know how the survivors of Hiroshima felt.
