during the day.

my cats have stopped sleeping through the night and become thoroughly annoying. the best solution is to keep them awake during the day, but i can't very well do that if i'm not home. one of them has only -one kind- of toy that will keep her consistently enthralled and active while requiring no interaction from others. the other...will not play with toys. he has one, interaction intensive toy that he will only respond to on occasion.

i need some suggestions to keep this lazy ass playing his way to exhaustion by 8pm

"The Cat Came Back
Old Mr. Johnson had problems of his own.
He had a yellow cat that just wouldn't leave him alone.
He tried and he tried to give the cat away.
He gave it to a little man going far away...
But the cat came back the very next day.
Yes, the cat came back. They thought he was gone,
But the cat came back. He just wouldn't stay away.
He gave it to a little boy with a dollar note.
He told the boy to take the cat up river on a boat.
The boat turned over and was never found,
And now they drag the river for the little boy who drowned...
But the cat came back the very next day.
Yes, the cat came back. They thought he was gone,
But the cat came back. He just wouldn't stay away.
The man around the corner said he'd shoot the cat on sight.
He loaded up his shotgun full of nails and dynamite.
He waited... and he waited... 'till the cat came walking round
And ninety-nine pieces of the man was all they found...
But the cat came back the very next day.
Yes, the cat came back. They thought he was gone,
But the cat came back. He just wouldn't stay away.
The H-bomb fell the very next day.
The A-bomb fell in the very same way.
Russia went! England went! And then the USA.
The entire human race was left without a chance to pray...
But the cat came back the very next day.
Yes, the cat came back. They thought he was gone,
But the cat came back. He just wouldn't stay away."

Cat's don't sleep for extended periods like people do. They sleep for short periods and then patrol the house to survey their domain. It's their nature.

Just get one of those nature CDs of a thunderstorm. They'll go off and hide and be too stressed to sleep.

You could pull some Gitmo shit and make them stay in stress positions while you play Pantera.

That won't work. My sister has a mini yorkie that never sleeps and barks all day. Pretty much any dog that any of my friends, or family have ever owned seems to think it needs to bark all day.

luckily my kitty sleeps when i sleep OR if she gets up to be annoying i don't hear her - if she does wake me up i just put earplugs in

but she's a lovebug so she likes to sleep and cuddle while i sleep

she IS very needy though which is super annoying - always in my space. ALWAYS in the same room as me. even if i get up to go pee, she follows. i think she's lonely so i'm going to the pound tomorrow to get her a friend.

which is def going to suck as far as sleeping goes because when my cat was a kitty, she was annoying as shit during the night. ugh. kitties.

both of mine like to run at night

they run and jump on the bed and jump onto us
my cat is clingy, too. even though he isn't super snuggly, he does like to follow a lot.

yeh, i dig it.

here's an idea:

set up webcams to watch the cats, and an internet enabled system that you could could turn various noisemakers (stereos, tv's, other gadgets) on at loud volumes.

or you could just lock the cats in another room at night. i mean, its your health and well-being. tell the cats to deal with it.
