Would it be cool if you as a white man/woman brought home a black girl/guy and vice versa

I use to think my family was fairly tolerant until my mom recently whispered in my ear, "drew, now its about the time you're going to start bringing girls home , i just want to tell you dont ever bring a black girl to my house as more than a friend"

this kinda caught me off gaurd

What do you think your parents would say...also if you have done this and know the answer, i dont really want to hear from you

my mom has talked often about adopting a little black girl, so i think she would love for me to have a mixed baby.

also i know she wouldnt care if i brought a black to her house, its more that id probably be embarassed when she started talking about 2pac or something

i wouldnt bring someone home like that to save my parents from having to say it to me. plus i don't want to have a serious relationship with another race.

I have a feeling there'd be awkward silence but, eventually, my parents would grow accustomed to the idea. It's just not something they're used to seeing, especially not in the family, and I'd be able to understand that.

Hell, I work somewhere with a bunch of older people who tell me you can't do "x" because we've always done "y" without giving shit to back up their reasoning. Older folks are just stubborn, and you can change them with time and patience.

But yeah, first it would be "oh my god" then "why would he do this?" then "oh it's just love at work, why am I even worried about this?" I think.

i think that on a one-on-one level, i could definitely have a great relationship with any "kind" of woman. but i really think that society-wise, it would be a pain in the ass. and in order to cut society off, i'd really have to be into a chick. and that feeling usually only lasts a few weeks

just to clarify, if i was in a serious relationship with a girl from a different race, i dont think it would be a huge problem with my mom and dad over time, the aunts and uncles though

I don't really know, but I think it would be okay. However, my mom is the most unpredictable person I know so I can't say for sure what the reaction would be.

i glad this has never been an issue with my parents, i've dated a lot of different races and they've always been pretty open and accepting with the girls i've brought home.

i don't think it would be any problem for any race other than a black chick. i don't think they would say anything about it, but inside they wouldn't initially be crazy about it. they are generally fairly tolerant and have come a long ways, but they have been known to toss around the word nigger in the past, and not in the 'nigga please' sense. i think after they got to know her it would be cool. however, the rest of my extended family would openly shit a brick and my grandfather likely turn over in his grave. yay for being from a small town in the south.

i personally don't have a problem dating a black chick, but would avoid getting into a serious relationship with her just keep peace in the family.

I'm glad my folks are the lone exception to the rule.

My older cousin was the first in my generation to blaze the interracial trail and married a black guy. When she first told them about him, my uncle threatened to kill himself if she married him. She actually brought him to my house first... My folks have always been the most tolerant within our extended family, and they pretty much loved the guy from the get go (his only major flaw is being a UNC alum) and somehow got my uncle to get over himself.
