Here's my beef with greeks. They've always seemed like elitist pricks. The people at the top of the pyramid are getting rich, the college chums are feeding their glory. They seem to bill themselves as community oriented, FOR THE BROTHERS, or some junk, but instead of helping the locals they're always holding closed meetings and passing out $300 gold pins because you can recite the motto. That's all I have at the moment, lol.

However I've been asked to join one. Since I don't give a flying flip, what say you Tdub?

Your votes will be 49% binding. If I can't afford it, then it's a moot point.

I liked when the male only frats sent me invites to their open houses or whatever they called them, then would get pissed when I took them up on the invite.

More info: This is a co-ed group focused on global outreach. For what it's worth.

And why am I not seeing votes?

well truthfully in the future none of that shit really means anythign in the real world, so throw away your personal beefs with greeks and think about what it can do for you

so first you gotta figure out how cool the frat is. Don't join a shitty one

Do they get girls? What quality of girls?

If they get hot chicks and you are in the market for getting women, and the frat doesn't suck, I say join.

Really there's no other reason.

^I'd be great, provided you can sell me on it.

If I'm going to be a poor... 'brother'... I'll save my money and not bother joining.

I was in a fraternity, got a $3000 scholarship, which is more than I ever paid in dues. I have literally saved thousands from staying with brothers in NYC, DC and other places. Alumni and brothers pushed me to go to grad school, my life is much better now because of it. People to tailgate with for football games, planning a trip to the UK and maybe Japan. Theres more to being in a fraternity than just the "now" benefits. Join a group that will push you to be a better person (in addition to the shenanigans). Many of the benefits are derived "after college." You get out of it what you put into it.

^^ Basically that seems to boil down to you paid to be in an organization to make friends that weren't shitty.

For some people they can manage to do that without paying dues.

They pay for upkeeping properties, scholarships, events, PR, etc. It's not that hard to imagine what association dues go towards

the fraternity you're describing is a lot different than social fraternities.

you usually don't just JOIN, you have to go through a rush period. try it, and if you don't like it then quit.

Ok,

But, I should point out that you rush before you are given a bid to pledge. Pledging takes in most frats a semester, and that time you affiliated w/ the frat, but not a brother. Most non-frat people don't really understand the difference between rushing and pledging.
