if so, does your trackball work alright (left/right motion to be specific)

ntlband to be somewhat helpful.. if you've never had a blackberry welcome to the world of shitty trackballs. I have a bold which is the same trackball as the tour. You have two options... one you can just move the trackball back and forth until the dust/dirt breaks up or if you're careful and have precision tools you can pop the ring off and clean it manually.

i have one and mine works fine.

I had to clean mine twice. The track ball is a cool idea, if it only worked like it was supposed to all the time.

Well known problem with the early production models, go back to the store where you bought it.

If the trackball is not working right exchange it under mfg warranty......don't make their problem yours. The trackball is a know isue with the tour if you get it exchanged the new one will probably be fine.

The newer ones should be better, apparently the early batches were awful. It'll be interesting to see how the track pad fairs on the 9700 this year and then the new tour next year.[Edited on October 2, 2009 at 7:22 PM. Reason : ]

actually im on my 2nd blackberry, had an 8703e, lost it on coney island, the replacement was an 8830 world edition (trackball is perfect)i can get a tour for $120 though if i get a new 2-year verizon contract...but ive heard about problems with the trackball...also have heard that the problem's been fixed but that RIM never officially stated there was a problem so who knows

This is a known issue with very very very early edition tour's. You either got some launch day stock or are incredibly unlucky. Verizon and Sprint both have a free exchange program. The issue was with the sensor sitting a fraction too shallow and causing issues, it was fixed with a hardware revision quickly. The launch day unit we have avoided it.Great phone, btw.

***i dont have a tour, but am considering buying one***

^lol. Rest assured it's been fixed a long time. And it's a baller phone. Particularly with verizon - their 3G is so thick you don't really miss the wifi. Even here in Hope Mills we're on 3g

i really wish i could keep my current plan, the new one would be a couple bux cheaper per month, but i get 50 fewer textskinda ~

I got mine two weeks ago and have been liking it a lot. Definitely feels a lot nicer than my old curve. Nice solid feel, no chiclet keys, and the screen is super sharp.Too early to tell but I havent had any problems with it.

the contour of the keys appears to be similar to that of the World Edition, so that's a plus for meit's gonna suck somewhat to have to get a new car charger to match the microUSB port :/do they make adapters for that?[Edited on October 2, 2009 at 10:58 PM. Reason : ]

^^ Just buy one off ebay or amazon for like 3 bucks shipped.

rest assured though they say the problem is fixed, it never will be however it isn't big enough of a problem to not get one.
