I know plenty of intelligent Christians. It's called compartmentalization. There are reasons that people embrace religion: social infrastructure, peace concerning death, and explaining the unexplainable. They might not be good reasons, but they are practical reasons. I would never attempt to degrade someone's character or intelligence because they are religious. They can be ignorant, though, which is very different from being stupid.
