while they were getting the stage ready for U2 they played some David Bowie, that was sweet

Here they did still havent found what im looking for, and he let the audience sing. At the time it was just kinda cool but looking back on this video i thought it was actually pretty awesome and very moving

These 2 are a must watch, in the first video the 360 degree video screen comes down while they are playing and it's really just an awesome thing to see. The second video it contracts down while the video is spinning fast, very cool shit

bowie was part of the show

you did get that they played david bowie's Life on Mars b/c of the "space ship" and the constant references of "taking off" throughout the show...and then they closed with Elton John's Rocketman??

and from where i was sitting...seeing 60k people clap in unison during Life of Mars was awesome

BUT THAT'S IN THE OTHER THREAD

*hand on head*

no...just the intro & outro music...they weren't physically at the show
both songs space related for the theme of the show

started with a space song...ended with a space song...360!

nope...the actual song played as intro and outro music over the speakers...both songs considerably louder than other music played before and after U2 started, purposefully played to set the tone for the theme of the concert

They must have a thing for NC BBQ because Bullocks has a picture of them at their place circa 1981 on their celebrity wall.

I only remember that because the caption says

It takes like 200 18-wheelers to bring in that stage. He has 3 stages that rotate around the country because it takes a week to set them up. His carbon footprint is as big as like Belgium. He is a fucking douche bag and his music sucks asshole.

^^ If a Belgium-sized carbon footprint is what it takes to put on the type of show U2 did at Carter-Finley, then that's exactly what needs to happen. Doesn't bother me one fucking bit.

And name for me one other active rock band that has maintained its musical and social relevance for 30-plus years with the original members?

And there's this:

Quote :
"28,500,000 The Joshua Tree
18,500,000 The Best of 1980-1990
17,500,000 Achtung Baby
14,500,000 Rattle and Hum
12,000,000 All That You Can't Leave Behind
10,000,000 War
10,000,000 How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb
10,000,000 Under a Blood Red Sky
8,500,000 The Unforgettable Fire
7,500,000 Zooropa
7,500,000 The Best of 1990-2000
7,000,000 Pop
4,000,000 Boy
3,500,000 October
3,500,000 No Line On the Horizon
2,500,000 Wide Awake in America

They place U2 as the 8th highest selling act in history based on album sales."

Quote :
"U2 first received Grammy Awards for the The Joshua Tree in 1988, and have won 22 in total since, tying U2 with Stevie Wonder as contemporary artists with the most Grammys."

Quote :
"The band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in early 2005."

http://leisureblogs.chicagotribune.com/turn_it_up/2009/09/u2-gets-green-to-offset-big-carbon-footprint-of-360-tour.html#

Quote :
"But the band says it’s not ignoring those concerns. In an interview with the BBC recently, guitarist The Edge said, "It's probably unfair to single out rock 'n' roll. There's many other things that are in the same category but as it happens we have a program to offset whatever carbon footprint we have."

Edge was vague on details, perhaps because the program was in its early stages. But U2 does have an environmental plan in place for the current tour, which includes having tour promoter Live Nation pay for programs to offset the carbon impact, according to an environmentalist working with the tour.

Earlier this year, U2 and Live Nation hired the greening company MusicMatters and EFFECT Partners to accompany the tour and work on cutting emissions and other damaging side effects of staging big rock concerts. Already, says MusicMatters CEO Michael Martin, the tour has cut the number of vehicles by 10 percent. Other changes include having tour staff use canteens rather than disposable water bottles. Venues such as Soldier Field are being encouraged to use everything from environmentally friendly soap and toilet paper to offering discount parking for hybrid vehicles.

At the end of the tour, Martin and his team will offer a handful of proposals to the band and tour promoter about how they can offset the environmental damage. “There are myriad options at myriad price points, from 8 dollars a ton to 25 dollars a ton, in projects they can fund around the world to offset the carbon footprint,” Martin says. “Proceeds from the tour will be used to pay for these projects, which shows commendable responsibility on their part.”

Martin says he expects the specific projects to be made public by the end of the year."

It's adding a good number of jobs as well so I'm not too upset.

i've never understood what was so great about them. everything i've ever heard has only stricken me as "meh" at best. also, i really don't see how all those green efforts with transporting their concert materials "offsets" the carbon footprint. i thought offset meant to counterbalance something. it's good to see that they're making an effort, but those efforts hardly offset whatever damage they're doing.
