is out of control

Apparently some promotion ended and now my bill is $183/mo.....this is ridiculous

does anybody know what I can do to get them to lower my bill without cancelling a bunch of channels?

I have hi speed internet, HD Cable and HD DVR

When I moved here in 05 i had a very similar package and was paying $113/mo and every year they raise my rates ~$30, i call and say wtf, and then they say 'well we can lower your bill $15 by doing this and that. Every year I reluctantly said 'fine' and let them do it, but i'm just sick of it now

has anybody had any success in getting time warner to actually give you a good deal on cable/internet? Is there a certain thing I could say, like threaten to switch to DirectTV or something?

thanks

mine went up an assload too after i lived here a year. i just cancelled everything and set up a computer as a dvr box (they never cut my tv off, just cut the box)

[Edited on October 5, 2009 at 5:32 PM. Reason : ^^ that won't work. they'll say ok do it]

Call them up and say "these prices are ridiculous, you wanna lower them back down to $x/mo that I was paying x years ago?"

Then when they say "no" say "ok, then cancel all of my services."

After that, go sign up for earthlink's cable internet service and pocket the money for a while until you see a deal you like offered by a satellite TV company or by TWC (or when uverse heads your way).

Not having TV is something you can get used to pretty quickly.

well, lemme say this

I did call once, told them my bill was too expensive, adn i'm gonna switch to DirectTV unless they'll do something about it

they offered me the same "we can lower it $15" crap even though they JUST raised it $30 so really they are just increasing my shit $15, and I said 'you do that every year and it's retarded, just go back to the $150 you were charging me'

and the lady said 'im sorry that was a promotion you were on and we just aren't offering that promotion anymore'

idk what to say next. It almost felt as if they were gonna call my bluff and let me cancel

this is true, i hardly even use my tuner anymore... so even if they cut it off, i'd be fine. i get all my shows either streaming on the web or through torrents. i dont have to miss anything, and i have the show within maybe 12 hours of it coming on

the only problem was live sports, and i get that now with justin.tv as of this weekend

cancel your goddamned cable, it's all garbage.

i did 6 months ago, and i dont miss it one bit

although i have an alternate arrangement for high-speed broadband where our whole townhouse community co-ops what is essentially a business connection.

^^^^That's exactly what I do. I canceled my cable after the promotion ran up. I thought it was going to suck, but it's actually sort of nice and the extra money doesn't hurt. The only negative is not having all the live sports, but you can usually find those streaming online.

You can call and bitch about it,
threaten to cancel your cable,
and they'll lower it to almost what it was.
But first they'll try to get you to sign a 2 year contract.
It's like a cell phone contract in that you pay a fee for early cancellation;
but unlike a cell phone contract where they give you a $400 phone, TWC isn't giving you anything.

And then, 6 months from now, I guarantee they'll raise your rate again.

I dealt with that shit for the past two years.
I was so fed up with them I switched to AT&T U-Verse.
They have good pricing and your rate is guaranteed for two years without signing a contract.

Look into it and shoot me a PM if you decide to switch...I can get a referral bonus off of it.

Since you have a roommate cant you just cancel yours and open another account under his name, or vice versa

I know 4 people who live together who have pulled that stunt for 3 years running with no problems

live sports is the last frontier that stops me from forsaking cable television permanently.

streaming works in a pinch, but the quality isn't there yet for it to be a fulltime option.

but I have a feeling that soon the streaming tech will advance to a level where i can finally tell TWC to suck my asshole.

How the hell was it even $113 to begin with? I have high speed internet and HD cable with the Showtime package, and its still less than $80. Is DVR really worth that much?

I'd call and threaten to switch to direct TV or dish network unless they give you a reasonable price. If it doesn't work, then actually switch.

I like impressing girls with my FF skills

They're like "Stop, you went too far !"

But I know the exact 1.3 seconds you need to go past the start of the show to have it start perfectly, right when the rating logo comes on the top corner

I am locked in for two years at and my hd digital cable with dvr and highspeed road runner is 96$ a month.

i recently had some issues with them and they gave me a month free cable and internet and a 10$ credit,

then they never actually gave me that month free and i got past due notices, they found they're mistake when i went into the office and i said i need something else done so they gave me showtime free for a year and the current campaign on road runner. i was paying 42.99 they are now lowering it to 34.99 for a year! which both those things ends up being $200 worth

About a week left to sign up for DirecTV's Sunday Ticket + Premier Package for 59.99

If you drop my account number then it will be 49.99 (probably like 60 after fees/taxes) and you get every channel DTV offers (within reason), plus Sunday Ticket for 5 months. Then it jumps to 130/mo or you knock the package down for 80/mo

Yeah that's the one big drawback. The NFL streams it's Sunday night games in very good quality with the choice to view the game from different cameras. It's not like the technology isn't there, so I'm not sure exactly why they don't stream more like that. I suppose it's the networks/advertisers. I know the NBA did the same thing with some of the playoff games, with the multiple camera options and whatnot. I imagine we'll continually be getting more and more official streams from sports organizations rather than these bootleg streams on justin.tv and the like, but I guess they have to figure out the money first.

Call them and ask for a copy of your bill every day of the month. When they finally ask why, tell them that you can't understand the price.

My friend had this happen to her a few months ago. Her bill went from like $150 to over $250 a month. So, she called them up and I think she added some bullshit channel or something for like $5 and they gave her the old rate back.

I only have roadrunner and I had to literally put in an order to disconnect the service before they were willing to improve the rate. (It went up $20 and I got them to take off $10.)

Fuck yeah we are.

I'm considering getting a digital receiver, because I'm pretty sure I have a great deal of free channels to choose from. I'll miss having the history channel, the discovery channel, the science channel, the military channel, etc but I am not sure that I can justify the expense on those items.

I mean, I get as much enjoyment out of reading a good book as I do watching one of the other nerdy channels, so why not just go and get a book from the library which is about ten minutes walking distance from my house? It's a huge savings, and it's exercise and good for the old noggin.

I would recommend keeping the roadrunner - unless you can get fios or uverse - and hitting up TurboHD from Dish. It's pretty sweet, and every channel is HD.
