Or more accurately, metropolitan area:

Quote :
"Raleigh-Durham has just about every intangible useful in attracting and developing a smart populace: It’s a university hub, including two of the nation’s elite schools (Duke and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill), and those schools led to one of the nation’s great technology incubators (Research Triangle). On top of that, Raleigh, as the state’s capital, attracts engaged political minds, as well. “We are fortunate to have great universities in Raleigh-Durham and great ‘smart’ industries that enrich our community greatly,” Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker told The Daily Beast. Enrichment enough to top our list. "

and yes, I too hate the lumping of Raleigh and Durham together but they also lumped San Francisco and Oakland, so I don't reckon I can complain too loudly.

^ i wouldnt say PC. because actually they have a strictly numeric methodology. although i don't agree with the weightings.

i like this one:

Quote :
"#31 (tie), WEST PALM BEACH

Metro Area Population: 1,801,376

Daily Beast IQ Score: 97

Despite mediocre scores and a sub-100 Daily Beast IQ, the West Palm Beach-Fort Pierce-Vero Beach metro area is the smartest in Florida. Which is exactly as dubious an honor as it sounds.

^^ traditionally ag/mech colleges always get ignored, in every state, in favor of the flagship universities that have professional schools of Law and Medicine.

i take pride in the underdog status of my university.

and Charlotte is #16,

but Chicago and Pittsburgh are #24 and #26

i know for a fact, having lived in all three places, that Charlotte is a fucking intellectual dead zone, whereas Chicago and Pittsburgh both have some major, world class universities and (especially for Chicago) thriving world class culture.

fucking Charlotte has NASCAR. the few trendy fags in Dilworth and UNC-C doesn't begin to make up for that.

... UNC isn't even IN Raleigh. Or Durham. It would then be called UNC-Durham or UNC-Raleigh. But it's not. It's in Chapel Hill. Imagine that.

The people that ranked Raleigh-Durham only know of UNC and Duke because of the huge amount of press they both get because of basketball season. NCSU brings more technical/engineering jobs to the area than UNC or Duke combined. This is just ignorance. Just look at SAS alone.

I, too, call BS.

I work for a major Fortune 200 medical device company as an engineer, and they pay for my grad school at the University of Washington.

my NCSU degree has been quite valuable.

In real life, especially in America, underdogs have traditionally been the best entrepreneurs and most innovative business people in our country. It's the trust fund kids that major in poetry that provide nothing new to society and live off of the wealth of their parent's legacy that live a life of content mediocrity.

oh, give it a fucking rest. nobody cares about undergraduates.

UNC and Duke have world-renowned Medicine and Law schools. they train first-class doctors and lawyers. THATS why the world recognizes them.

NC State is a good engineering school, but we're still just another engineering school. and we dont compete at the same level as your Cal Techs, MITs, or Carnegie-Mellons and their ilk.

sorry, its a fact. now deal with it, and quit blaming it on faggots or Herb Sendeck or whatever else has got your panties in a knot.

I'll agree about Duke Medicine, but that's all. Based on my personal experiences, the people that I know who graduated from UNC are less successful than the people that graduated from NCSU. Granted, none of them were doctors or lawyers. Also, I suppose it depends on what we are really talking about, the institutions themselves, or the people that graduated from them. If it's the latter, I'm not impressed with the results I've witnessed. The facades run deep at both universities, perhaps too deep.

UNC law is actually considered a pretty poor law school.

But both do have world class medical schools and research/teaching hospitals

and there's their MBA programs, which are also top notch.

Yes, UNC and duke both have great graduate programs, and if you carry a UNC or Duke diploma, it better be a professional degree or you'll be working at starbucks if you don't have nepotism and cronyism to get you a better job.

A 4 year degree from NCSU is more likely to land you a well-paid job though.

Yes both of the above have plenty of exceptions, but the assertions are _generally_ true.

bullshit. while obviously not as prestigious as Duke or Harvard, it is tied with UW, ranked just behind BC and GWU and just ahead of OSU and UGA. It's still a top-tier law school, very competitive, and gets their graduates into the nation's top legal firms.

http://www.top-law-schools.com/rankings.html

so, lets see one of you scholars here get into it. Oh, wait, i know... you're still appealing your rejection letter from Campbell

and:

fixed it for you.

the rest of UNC / NCSU are roughly equivalent. Duke will have an edge.
