i have gotten 23 letters from lawyers about it. thats wild. and they've sent offers as low as 35 bucks to get it taken care of.

if i didn't have a lawyer already... well, i'm still tempted to do this: call them all and get them in a bidding war and see if one would do it for like 5 bucks.

also i think if someone could find a way to access each attorney's win-loss record in each county in the state, and compile lawyer rankings on a website, they could make a fuckload of money. too bad that info isn't exactly public record. you'd have to have someone sit in every courtroom every day for like a year to get good numbers.

hmm... anyone want a job sitting in a courtroom all day? take the court calendar and for each entry i need the attorney's name and the case disposition. what is your salary requirement to do this

One of my Girlfriend's really good friends is a lawyer in High Point. He will get it taken care of for free if you want. Just let me know.

oh, i have no doubt that there are. but i don't think there are any that say, for example, that:

Lawyer A has taken 348 speeding tickets this year.
He got 25% dismissed without a trial
He got 50% reduced without a trial
He took 25% to trial
- He got a not guilty verdict 89% of the time

THEN you go with the personal references and stuff. People tend to lie, where numbers do not.

I appreciate that, but I've already got the best lawyer in Guilford County and he is family so I will get a discount (likely free for a speeding ticket).

Sounds like Eric has High Point covered, but if anyone needs a good attorney in Greensboro with almost 30 years experience, who is active in politics as well and knows everyone involved in the legal system here, shoot me a PM and I'll get you a referral.

yes it would definitely be a great tool, but the datamining is gonna be tough. i'm really gonna try to do this

"$50K"

I was thinking 35-45k to start, maybe with upward adjustments if the hours end up being long or if the work ends up being harder than expected. But definitely the people who come in at the beginning can safely expect a minimum of 50k once the company starts turning a profit

1. Steal jackleg's idea.
2. Sit in a courtroom everyday for a year.
3. Compile my findings into an easily accessible pay to play website.
4. Profit, until I'm sued by Jackleg's epic lawyer for copyright enfringement.

Imagine the kind of mail you'd get if you killed someone.

1.
2. there are way too many courtrooms to do it alone, or i'd just find a way to work nights and go after this myself!
3. the website will be a free service, the money comes from lawyers paying you to fudge their numbers
4. i only have lawyers for these categories: criminal, civil / tort type stuff, divorce (lol not what you think), real estate, taxes. don't have anyone that specializes in patent law or whatever.

BUT MAYBE I NEED ONE

i got charged with 2nd degree kidnapping once like 6 or 7 years ago, and i got a bunch of mail from people who wanted to defend me. but that was more like $25,000 they wanted and not $25

but the speeding ticket definitely brought more mail.

^ as for anyone stealing my great idea, it would happen anyways after i made the site. i'm confident that my site will be the best of its kind, mainly because a) i'm smarter and b) i'd take better care of my researchers and developers

I was actually asking that question to jackleg, since he lives in Guilford County and I will probably know the judge.

Sometimes I don't see justification in getting a lawyer; you pay them and they make a deal in court but most of the time you still get stiffed with court cost and/or fine + lawyer fees just to plead to a reduced charge. Seems like it would be easier to just pay the court cost + fine for a speeding conviction than pay an ton of money for improper equipment.

^^plenty of (especially smaller town) well-to-do attorneys that have been practicing for years still send letters for business. the firm i work for now doesn't send letters, but the one i used to work for did. they started out in a small town, and were expanding to raleigh. there were ads in all the familiar places, but the letters helped too. the firm was far from a new or crappy law firm.

im talking for traffic and crimial, and i guess i should have said cheap. cause most of the letter writers are cheap, ie they go the first day and get what they can

Well du'h about insurance, but some convictions for speeding don't carry insurance points depending on your driving history.

djeternal, all i know right now is that the ticket says the court date is 12-8 at 1:30 pm, i guess it's greensboro's version of disposition court

i also got a letter from the clerk of superior court saying that my court date had changed, but they "changed it" to 12-8 at 1:30pm

when it comes online, i'll try to find the judge
