The aid station had no catheter, but a spectator stepped forward to offer Johncock a catheter he had in his car. I am going to assume that it was an unused catheter.

Uhm. . .I guess anyone that has to use a catheter keeps extra with them.

not likely if he was aided by the medical personel... they are kinda trained to do stuff like this in less than ideal conditions

and yeah, people who need catheters tend to keep extras around in case they need them, and they are stored in sterile, individual packages.
