ditto...and i'm pretty sure there's a legal difference

just like not all speed limit signs are registered and "legal"...for example, if there's a stretch of road that goes from 55mph to 45mph back to 55mph in a (relatively) short distance, it's almost guaranteed that the 45mph isn't the registered speed limit on the county books

in a "reduced speed ahead" situation, the speed limit is legally reduced...in a "reduce speed ahead", it's advisory...you could get out of a ticket in a "reduce speed ahead" situation if you're written up for "speeding" in that slower area because you actually weren't (assuming you were actually doing the registered limit or less), but you COULD get a ticket for being reckless (that one's a lot harder to get away with from the cop's point of view, though, so you won't see that often)

believe it or not, it's difficult to legally change the speed limit for a road...that's why they just put up these unregistered signs...i guarantee you'll NEVER find a speed trap in an area where the signs aren't registered

How can one find out which speed limits are registered? The reason I ask is that the speed limit sign disappeared for about a year on a certain road I travel frequently. When it was replaced it had gone down 10 MPH. I've always wondered if that was legit, a mistake, or some local yokel who wanted people to slow down on his road.

...and on that note; a friend's dad (police officer) once told me that speed limit signs posted in parking lots, such as the ones found in mall parking lots, are not legally enforceable. They're more like "suggestions"

I thought they could ticket you as long as it was "private property for public use" (i.e., the mall parking lot.)
