Jedi was just on and I'm trying to remember besides Alderan (which was harboring rebels) and axing Luke's aunt and uncle, what was so bad about the way the Empire was running things?
10/13/2009 12:14:38 AM
Didn't they blow up Vulcan?
10/13/2009 12:15:46 AM

10/13/2009 12:26:02 AM
Mainly the fact that the Galactic Empire was controlled by the Sith Lord Darth Sidious. You know, kinda the embodiment of evil. And basically anyone who opposed their rule was massacred or their planet was blown the fuck up (ok so that only happened that one time, but still)./nerd
10/13/2009 12:28:26 AM
What does it matter if they control the world as long as i am happy. I mean what were there policies? Did they have free health care? low-taxes? Freedom of speech?Maybe the Jedi's are the oppressive ones.
10/13/2009 12:31:11 AM
No freedom of speech. No rights for women and aliens. Mandatory service to the Imperial Army or Navy. Openly would massacre anyone who protested their policies. And i am not sure exactly what regulation there was on the use of the available bacta tanks, but they probably charged out the ass for medical care.
10/13/2009 12:33:55 AM
^^^ see thats what I'm getting at, opposition was killed on a fairly frequent basis but its not like the jedi didn't spend a lot of time wasting people with their light sabers and shitI don't think you can guage it by just trying to stop opposition/rebellionyou take that away and I just don't see the evil so much^I don't really recall seing that in any of the movies and I'm not counting all the extra shit they've probably put out over the years[Edited on October 13, 2009 at 12:36 AM. well they massacred the entire transport of Jawas on Tatooine while looking for R2-D2. They wouldn't allow Padme to speak in the Senate at one point (though that was technically Palpatine (Sidious) and his followers as the Galactic Empire was not exactly established until the time between "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope".They also murdered Luke's Aunt and Uncle when the didn't find him at home. I also don't recall seeing the Jedis kill much of anyone with the light sabers other than clones, storm troopers, animals, and droids. Plus the light saber was supposed to be the last line of defense for them.
10/13/2009 12:41:33 AM

10/13/2009 12:47:46 AM

10/13/2009 1:40:41 AM
Well, their entire officer corps had british accents.
10/13/2009 1:44:21 AM
They also didn't have any affirmative action policy in regards to officer promotion. Of course, they did hire grand admiral thrawn but that wasn't until after episode vi.

Theres alot of revisionist history when it comes to the Empire. The pro-jedi media and historians will tell you the Sith were simply evil and that they wanted to destroy all life. This couldn't be further from the truth. The Sith wish to see life flourish throughout the Galaxy in an ordered fashion for the benefit of all. The "republic" and its corrupt leadership, on the otherhand, only wished to strengthen their central seat of authority and milk the outer worlds for all they were worth. This resulted in a continued decline of civilization into a cesspool of beauractactic stupidity. The Sith believe it is only through disipline and order that the lives of individuals can be bettered. By triming ones weaknesses and renenforcing ones strengths, an individual can lead a better life. It is the same with society. The only way to progress as a whole, is to purge all weakness from the Galaxy. Those who refuse to better themselves or those who would continue to hold down and prevent the meek from rising to greatness must be destroyed for the betterment of the Galaxy. Are the Sith evil? Only if you believe order, disipline, and self improvement are evil.
10/13/2009 10:52:22 AM
^then what the hell did the Jedi believe?
10/13/2009 10:56:25 AM
All right... all right... but apart from:better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order... what has the Empire ever done for us?
10/13/2009 10:58:34 AM
The Jedi continue their misguided belief that they are the "keepers" of the force. That it is up to them and them alone to determine the fate of the Galaxy. Those who are strong in the force are stolen from their families and forced into the "Academy" where they are brainwashed to fight the Jedi Order's battle against the Sith. Force insensitives are treated as second class citizens. The Jedi see them as simply objects to be pitied because they could never possibly contribute to the galaxy as much as the Jedi. Other than...dissolving democracy, systematically trying to exterminate the Jedi (genocide),blowing up Alderaan (more genocide) simply to "demonstrate" their weapon, shooting everybody who even remotely questions them, using torture (for the sake of torture, no less),spending trillions of taxpayer dollars to build something for the sole purpose of annihilating planets, and maintaining an all-white, all-male, all-human government to the exclusion of all others, they were pretty OK.[Edited on October 13, 2009 at 1:39 PM. Okay someone tell me this:if "Uncle Owen" is the stepbrother of Darth Vader, how can it be that(1) Owen merely spends his life eking out a hardscrabble existence in the desert of Tatooineand(2) Darth Vader has no idea that he's squirreling away Vader's own son for 18-odd years.

10/13/2009 4:31:22 PM
They forced star systems under their wing, in order to establish order. Anyone that spoke against the empire, was simply eradicated or imprisoned. This Black and White philosophy in a Grey world, creates a lot of enemies. The biggest reason the Empire was evil, was that under the guise of establishing order, they were in fact, destroying freedom itself.

I'm sure if the movie was shot from the Empire point of view it would be a lot different. Plus they could use some good PR of Darth Vadar helping out some kids or something.
