I wasn't sure what section this would work best in, so I figured I would at least post it where it will get the most views.

Any of you guys have any experience in DirecTV dish installation? I have installed quite a few over the years, but I have an interesting situation surrounding my current project. My buddy went back to college out in Brevard and I am trying to get him set up with DirecTV. The only problem is, the only line-of-sight available is about 250 ft. from the house. Does anyone have any experience / advice regarding a cable run of this length?

Yeah, he lives in the middle of the woods. In a shack that has no heat and no AC, and literally has an outhouse for a bathroom. But he has power and a TV, so I figure at the very least I can hook him up with some form of entertainment.

I know people who have no problems with 150'+ runs of good quality RG6 coax. You can always lay the cable out on the ground and see what happens at 250'.

^ yeah, I read that same forum so I am fairly certain it's possible. I'm mainly curious if a signal amplifier will be needed, and if so what kind.

If it isn't going to be split, you'll probably be ok.

So, where can I get 250' of RG6? Does Lowe's sell it by the foot?

compared to the cost of the cable an inline amp shouldn't be that expensive. Even so I sure Radioshack has your cabling, but if you have some time I'd order some quality cable online.

Don't get me wrong, it would be a cool little getaway for a week. But it would be REALLY tough for me to live with no form of entertainment other than books for 9 months. Dude doesn't have internet either.
