http://www.fastcompany.com/blog/ariel-schwartz/sustainability/tres-amigas-project-americas-renewable-energy-hubThis has the potential to be one of the most innovative undertakings to our nation's transmission infrastructure in a long time. This is the first use of superconductors on our grid in a truly useful manner to date, and the logistics of being able to sell power anywhere is going to change a lot about our current trading markets. I think the project is being overhyped on the renewable end, and there's a good chance that the location will move north when ERCOT tells everyone to fuck off. Still, it will be interesting to see this kind of project take place and how it will affect future infrastructure plans.[Edited on October 15, 2009 at 10:50 PM. Reason : imagequotequoteimage]

I'm not sure if the substation was named after the movie or because it will most likely be built by a bunch of migrant contractors.
