$37,458,493 (just the house, not the land). In case anyone was curious.

I killed some time at work looking at the Buncombe County land records online.

More fun facts: 10 full baths, 10 fireplaces, 20 bedrooms, and 3 elevators. 135,280 sq. ft. (75x the size of my house)

they charge anywhere from $45-$56 for admission into the house depending on the time of year.

...if you arrive after 3pm, then your admission fee is good for the next day.

Probably one of the more hideous displays of architecture in the United States. There is no flow to the building and there are way too many styles packed under one roof. Perhaps the only building I've visited which is more disconcerting is Koners Folley.

I'll probably go back sometime though.

Rather interesting. You would think with that parcel size they would have built more.

Good to know, thanks for the info. What time do they close each day?

Dunno. I'm sure it's on their website. I just happened to notice that on a pamphlet I was eyeing at an Asheville visitor center.

I have been on too many occasions to even count. I greatly dislike that place.

actually no, it's one of the last and very good examples of the gilded age (late 1800's)

also the number 8 on the list of favorite architecture in the US, by architects association

but please do tell us how it's many different styles again...

You do not get half off if you are a resident.

There are tons of really cool facts about the house. I was a concierge at the Inn (on the estate) there this summer and know WAY too much about it.

^^ I found it pretty much by accident, but yeah, it is a really neat house . . . and the woman working the front that day had some funny stories about how she hated Wachovia.
