when I flew to japan 2 months ago I was at an exit row so I was chatting a lot with one of the attendants. he told me the plane pretty much flies its way there and then that the pilots basically line the plane up with the runway and it the computer takes care of most of the landing.

I know it gets boring on those long flights...hell, one of my best friends flies 747s for UPS between Louisville, KY and Anchorage, AK.

But for God's sake...I'd like to know we'd be in good shape if the autopilot decides to shit the bed.
