If he was not paying attention or about to cause an accident?

I did, because he very nearly hit me at an intersection. We were on the same road going opposite directions at a stop light. I was going straight, and he was turning left across my lane. We both had solid green circles - no turn arrows at the light.

There was a full line of cars going in my direction, and he had no space to turn. He turned anyway, and my nose was about 5 feet from his passenger door. I slammed on the brakes, laid on the horn, and he only avoided the collision by hitting the gas real hard to get out of my way.

It was dark around the intersection, and I didn't even know it was a cop car until I was letting off the horn. He had only his front headlights on - no blue lights.

He pulls a u-turn, finds me and pulls me over. He then proceeds to yell at me, lecture me about speeding through an intersection, and needing to be more careful. He was going to write me a ticket, but I think he didn't because there was another cop at the intersection who saw the whole thing.

I told him he should be thanking me for honking at him. If I had not hit the horn, he would have caused the accident and would be determined at fault. I also told him it was not possible for me to be speeding - I was in a 4-cylinder escort and second in line at the light when it turned green. It's just a confusing intersection and he was not paying attention. I see accidents there almost daily in the same situation, so I was ready for it to happen.

All in all, I feel pretty lucky - if the other cop were not there, I'm sure he would have written the ticket. And if it's his word against mine, well, we all know how that would end.

There's a cop who lives in my apartment complex who consistently idles in the fucking parking lot after he gets off duty in his cruiser with the car ON and the A/C running while he's chatting on his phone. I'm tempted to go by and knock on his window and tell him that my taxpayer dollars pay for that gas he's wasting, and that I'd kindly appreciate it if he'd turn the car off and go inside, but he'd probably pull some shit like "Threatening an officer of the law" and taze me or something. Oh, I've also seen him idling at like 11pm at night in the parking lot with a fucking baseball game up on ESPN360 on his laptop in the cruiser. Fucking idiot cop.

I have wanted to honk at a cop before - was in front of me at a light and was on his phone and caused me to miss the light because he wasn't paying attention. He about did it again through the next cycle and I was about to honk, but thankfully someone behind me did my dirty work for me


My rule of thumb: don't give any reason for unnecessary interaction with the police, no matter who is at fault. I had a cop come yell at me to "turn my music down" at a tailgate, when I didn't have anything on at all, and it was kind of embarrassing. I went to another cop across the way and asked why he would do that and why he had to be so condescending when he was clearly wrong, and that about got me into more trouble (the other cop started asking if I wanted a ticket for something-or-other along the lines of disorderly and resisting)

1. I'm an officer of the law in service to the people of this city. My life is second to those of the citizens.

2. I'm an officer of a brotherhood of men. We protect ourselves first before the civilians.

Truth. I only made the exception with the horn this time because he was about to hit me, and a collision would have made an even greater involvement with him.

If it happened, I could easily see him acting like it was purposeful on my part (after he would have hit me), and he would have come out of his car with his weapon drawn or some shit saying I had assaulted him with a deadly weapon.

a dude in an expedition leaving a hornets game cut us off way back in the day. driver of the car i was in laid on the horn and i flipped the expedition the bird.

turned out it was an off duty cop in his everyday ride. he slowed down to get beside us and flashed his badged and pointed for us to pull over, so we did. he proceeds to cuss at us and threatens that he "ought to kick your ass for that smartass finger." then he just got back in his expedition and drove away.

so, yeah. some cops are just fucking dickholes.

Generally my interactions with cops have be very good. SHP, on the other hand... I've had the same patrolman pull me over in go mode w/ gun drawn 2x, and once w/ gun drawn. I look far from shady, and had speedo that was off... w/ my mother in the car (last year). We made a few phone calls both times, and had these completely thrown out w/ no fine/court fees.

The funny thing is that I interact w/ this turd on a weekly basis (starting after all of this went down), and won't look me in the eye. I'd like to know what jackass thinks about the entire senario.
