So the other gluten free thread hasn't had a reply in over 90 days and is locked, but if you are gluten free then you need to know to avoid the carolina ale house.

Avoid the carolina ale house! The cary location made me sick last night. Waitress wouldn't let me speak with the manager, told me the meal would be gluten free, then later (after I'd started eating) told me the veggies were cooked on the same flat plate as the meat! I am sure the teriyaki sauce from another order in my party ended up on my veggies because I wasn't able to talk to the manager. I'll never go to a restaurant owned by L&M again, since they obviously don't give a damn about food allergies. I'm posting this here so none of you have to go through the misery I am now. The really sad part is the red robin right next door has a gluten free menu and gives a damn.

Locked: No, it's not.

No doubt.

So infallible, in fact, that she's probably already phoning up lawyers to find one to help her with a class-action lawsuit.

It wouldn't be class-action, that is only when a large group of people collectively bring a claim to court. If you had to seek medical assistance because of what you ate at this restaurant, you might be able to secure a settlement.

^^ Plz don't tell her that. This girl would sue a blind person for assault if she saw one coming and had time to step in front of his feeler cane.

I have contacted L&M and am trying to work it out with them so this doesn't happen in the future to other unsuspecting guests, although I'll never return there.

I'm sure the server held you down and blocked you from speaking to a manager

I'll be sure to go there more often

I asked to speak with a manager and she said she'd go ask for me. Every single fucking time I asked about anything, even when I asked to speak directly to the manager. When you have food allergies you also don't want to piss off your server because they could contaminate the food. I should have just told her to fuck off and went across the street to red robin, but I was with other people.

Problems for patrons with food allergies generally means they kitchen isn't cleaned very well between prepping meals. Something to consider when you go to eat out. Even if I didn't have food allergies after knowing the nastiness that happens in most kitchens I'd only go to allergy friendly places because they are cleaner and less likely to give you food poisoning as well.

maybe you should've just started there to begin with? the ale house just isn't too gluten-free friendly in my experience, anyway, and i should hope that your friends care more about your health than their entrees.

this is going to be no less problematic for them than deliberately spitting in your food or leaving a nice sample in your ground beef. really? REALLY?? you have more to worry about from the fact that people are just uneducated about so many food issues because they don't come into contact with them on a regular basis. many servers and their superiors are open to customers comments/help in understanding very real problems for customers.

i expect at least one viable statistic or reputable study.

i'm pretty sure that, as an adult, you should know how to advocate for yourself by now. you should know how to demand a manager until you get one--this does not have to cause a scene--but jesus fucking christ, put a fucking lid on the whiny bitch and learn to be assertive. there are much more productive and helpful ways to bring about positive change. GET A FUCKING GRIP.

I don't have a serious allergy from gluten. As I said in the last thread, I was tested for Celiac's and it came back negative, although I am not very satisfied with that conclusion. Thinking about getting a second opinion or other tests done.

I've cut gluten out of my diet about 90% of the time. Meaning, I do still have things like, a roll, or a cookie, these are the kinds of limits I place for myself.

I've tried to reintroduce a heavy amount ( normal amount I would eat before I realized gluten could be the cause of my digestive issues) of gluten back in my diet and I notice a big difference.

Biggest difference to note: greasy flatulence. Probably due to the mal-absorption. And of course constipation.

Thank god my allergy is not that serious where I have to worry about contamination during food preparations. But I do have somewhat funny restaurant experience.

I dined at an italian restaurant about a month ago and I asked if they had gluten free pasta. The waitress went back to the kitchen and I guess asked whoever cooked back there ( I'm sure he wasn't a schooled chef from his/her answer) and she came back with this answer:

" Ma'am we do have wheat pasta but I'm sorry we don't have pasta made from rice."

I know that a lot of people make this mistake, that rice is "glutenous"...

I didn't make a big deal out of it and just ate the sole fish that was on the bed of the regular linguine.

I love fake meat made from gluten... it blows my mind that so-called vegetarians look down on seitan for tasting too much like meat. THAT'S THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT U DOUCHEBAG!!! Then they carry on about how their soggy soy-dogs are just like the real thing...

Unlike you mcfluffle, I am sometimes really fucking tired at the end of the day and don't feel like waiting for a table twice, pissing off my boyfriend's parents, and getting my food fucked with. It is EXTREMELY common, just ask anyone that's worked in food prep. I've heard from guys that've pissed in the pickle jars and all sorts of things. I don't want that. the server told me what was in all the items I was ordering, but she obviously didn't tell the fucking kitchen i had food allergies and they needed to quit being nasty slobs for a while. I normally never eat out, so I thought when asking about allergies it was understood they'd clean the equipment! i am not generally sensitive to cross contamination either, so there had to be a whole fucking lot of nasty in my food.

my gf is a vegetarian and doesn't look down on anything...i eat meat with her at the table, she'll even make it for me...also, i PREFER veggie hot dogs to real ones (though of course i'll eat a "real" hot dog)...the taste is almost indistinguishable from a real hot dog and i feel better about eating something that isn't miscellaneous animal byproducts

i know you're not saying every vegetarian is a douchebag, but you're right in that some are like that...in my experience, there's a big difference between animal's-rights vegetarians ("meat is murder!") and "america's farm animal industry is unacceptably and unnecessarily cruel and i can be just as healthy or healthier without meat" vegetarians

i think the former are nutjobs and i happen to agree with the latter, just not to the point that i'm going to give up my steaks

I thought it sounded pretty extreme that a possible (at best) small amount of sauce contamination would cause you to get sick, but have you thought that it was possibly something else that made you sick and not gluten contamination since you normally aren't that sensitive?

Every so often, I will get sick (as in diarrhea, not anything serious) after eating at a restaurant, but I just chalk it up to the extra grease/fat they use when cooking that I am not used to.

I had mahi mahi, veggies, and rice. No way there was enough extra fat to make me sick, and I ONLY have heardburn after gluten. I'm downing tums at every opportunity and taking 3 zantac 150 a day. No way it could have been anything else

too tired for your health? really? when there is a gluten-free friendly restaurant RIGHT.NEXT.DOOR.?

i wonder what the likelihood is that your veggies were to blame instead of nasty slobs in the kitchen.

Clearly it was the fish. Everyone knows you don't order fish at the beginning of the week and it's got about as much weight as your assumption that a "whole lot of nasty" (that you couldn't see or taste and aren't normally reactive to) teriyaki sauce got on to your vegetables made you sick.

It could also just be the fact that you ate some crappy food...

Or the fact that she actively seeks opportunities to bitch, moan, and blame other people for imaginary problems.

^^Now that I know what she had, it seems much more likely that the piece of fish was sketchy than any possible minute gluten contamination.

Then again, it's harder to play victim when it's just bad seafood and not a rare food allergy that a restaurant is maliciously discriminating against.

If we put lewoods in a plane on a treadmill and force-feed her good, hearty, glutenous bread

...will lewoods ever have a chance to sue for the distress of a rough landing?
