are the prices pretty fixed? $55 for a sixth barrel is kind of steep (party beverage)

i would think since it's a seasonal beer they're gonna charge more for a keg of it no matter where you go. we get all our kegs from Total Wine, so try calling them?

total wine said their distributor was out and that they won't have any more until next year...which sucks, because i have a $35 gift card

it also sounds retarded...i would think carolina is still brewing, but maybe not...i might call another total wine and see what they say

Whole Foods is a good start, but I'd check Lowe's Foods or HT first, because you'll pay at least $2 more for a 6pk at Whole Foods. those damn hippies mark up everything

eh, there will be enough people there that 1-2 beers each is about all they're gonna get, anyway

[Edited on October 27, 2009 at 1:23 PM. Reason : most people coming really like cottonwood, so i figured we'd get the keg]

Harris Teeter doesn't have it (at least the one in CV doesn't). Whole Foods, Peace Street Market and College Beverage all have it.

not really, but believe whatever you want. Granted, HT can be cheaper IF they're running a sale on something but Whole Foods has sales too so I would call it a wash.

ah, the total wine at north hills said she called her distributor and was able to get 3 sixth barrels (so the total wine at cary is crappy, since they use the same distributor)...$55 after tax and i get to use my card

don't forget, total wine charges you to rent that other "stuff" you need for a keg which comes to another $30 or so. or is that including the "stuff"?

^ for a sixth (not a pony)? yeah

as noted, it's probably not really very high for a seasonal, but $1+ per 12oz is pretty steep, in general

yeh, $55 is steep for a 1/6th keg... but you are getting seasonal premium.

Typical U.S. kegs:

sixth barrel = 1/6th barrel
pony = 1/4 barrel
keg = 1/2 barrel

the michelob pumpkin is far better, cottonwood made me almost the last time i had it, but its still better than blue moon pumpkin

Have you checked that Indian store on Western, down by the Harris Teeter/Sonic shopping center

they always had cheap as hell kegs

although they inspect it with a fine tooth comb for damages whenever you return it
