One problem with those rumors is that the high STD rate attached to ECU is really attached to the Greenville community as a whole. I live in G'ville, and I've heard from health-care professionals that the STD/HIV rate (one of the highest in the state) here should be attributed to people moving to the area because of the level/amount of access to health care, and not just to ECU students. When statistics are measured, they're just lumped all together, and people assume it's students spreading these diseases. East of Greenville, it's difficult to find the level of health care found here. That said, I know that there is a high level of sexual carelessness on campus, but I think that's anywhere. I would love to see ECU shake the reputation it has.
