Quote :
"Minneapolis Police Department is again defending itself against accusations that an officer went too far during an arrest.

Video given to WCCO-TV late Monday night shows a man with his hands on a squad car when an officer uses a Taser on his neck.

Attorney Albert Goins is suing the City of Minneapolis on behalf of his client, Rolando Ruiz. They're asking for $75,000 and that the officer involved be reprimanded.

The video given to WCCO starts only seconds before the Taser is used on Ruiz, not what led up to the incident. But in that time, no struggle can be seen before the officer used his Taser on Ruiz. What is seen is Ruiz with his hands on the hood of the officer's car.

The dash camera of the squad car was rolling when the officer approached Ruiz with Taser in hand.

"Takes that Taser, puts it to the back of his neck and shocks him until he is incapacitated on the ground, slumped before the squad car," said Albert Goins."

eh, doesn't look too good for the cop. I'm not one to cry foul every time an officer uses force/tazers... but this looks a little suspicious. Though the defense lawyer did a good job with releasing only part of the video with muffled sound.

"A suburban Chicago police officer Tasered a man 11 times while he was having a diabetic seizure, and the 56 seconds of needlessly inflicted electric shock, "inflicted ... while he was lying unresponsive on the floor of his bedroom, permanently scarred [him] and caused him neurological damage that has not abated," the man claims in Chicago Federal Court.
Prospero Lassi says he suffered a diabetes-induced seizure at home on April 9. His roommate called 911, and police from LaGrange Park and Brookfield responded, with EMTs from LaGrange Park.
Lassi says his roommate explained to police that he was having a diabetic seizure. Lassi "was not alert and could not move his body."
When the EMTs asked the cops to help them move Lassi from where he was lying on the floor, Lassi says, one of his "arms flailed during his diabetes-induced seizure, striking one of the LaGrange and Brookfield defendants. At no time did Mr. Lassi intentionally strike or offensively touch any of the LaGrange or Brookfield defendants."
Lassi says LaGrange Park Officer Darren Pedota responded by Tasering him 11 times, for nearly a minute, as he lay helpless.
He was hospitalized for 5 days, and was unable to work for 3 months because of the attack, "and his quality of life has suffered substantially," Lassi says."

^ I can't imagine how he could be as stupid as that sounds. Did he come running in uninformed of the situation seconds before or something?

I dunno...Tazing isn't that much different than getting punched or something in my opinion. Getting smacked sucks, but good luck getting more than $75k for one smack with no notable injuries. Realistically it just doesn't seem plausible IMO.

This kind of shit is not rare in the least. There have been a lot of similar incidents involving diabetics. Tons of google hits like this:

Not really, you go for the easy score. You dont make it some ridiculous amount that that can't/won't pay. You go for something reasonable that you know they will counter lower with.

Its like those stupid fucks that had the pics of Travolta's son when he died and tried to blackmail him for $25mil not to release them. If they were smart, they would have asked for like $1-2mil. Something he could have easily and been willing to pay. Instead they were stupid and greedy.

So police brutality is alive and well, and indeed thriving, in the US.

But it is so much more fun to complain about the protesters being abused in places like Iran, China, Zimbabwe, etc.

If you ask me, this cop should be jailed for life. Better yet, bring whipping and lashing back. Even better, tase the ignorant asshole 11 times in 56 seconds. And then fine him and throw his ass on jail.

Maybe the dude who got tazed bro is from out of town and they wanted to keep it out of federal court? Considering this is a local PD, this would only make sense if that city's citizens already hates its police... and the video did start by saying "Minneapolis Police Department is AGAIN defending itself against accusations an officer went too far during the arrest."

Or I guess it would be a few equally as likely things to lead to that arbitrary-looking number
