they kind of put you in a no win situation. You don't want to ditch them all the time because that will make them sadder, but they really kill your mood if you try put up with them. If you point out that they have nothing to be so mopey about all the time and they get even more depressed. In movies and novels downers always turn out to be really interesting people with deep thoughts that are rewarding to know, in reality they just wine a lot and get sad again as soon as you stop paying attention. The reason they're sad and have no real friends in the first place is because they're so boring. But still, you don't want to just forget them and have them get worse and worse till they kill themselves or go on a rampage. But what can you do?

^^encourage them to get help so they can become the great people they are and they don't drive all their friends away.

I like to slip a mix of amphetamines and LSD into their food so they get happy for a little while and re-think their lives.

I have def been in a similar situation and I had to tell her the truth about herself. She was very hurt. No one had ever told her the truth. She tries to be more aware of it now and she is now my best friend.

They need to be around people like themselves and realize how much their attitude sucks. That helped me out when I was in a similar situation... that was in like middle school though

its up to them to figure it out, nothing you can do, either they get it or they dont, and nothing you say is gonna change that

One of my friends is like this. Annoying as shit when you try to get them out but they wont go, and later complaign about being bored and not going out. When they dont do anything to improve their predicament is ridiculous to me.

All of my exes were like this, it makes it so hard to break away.... you become their only friends, and the source of all their joy. ...
