I bought my dad some Macallans 12 year scotch whiskey for $53 and it came with a fancy leather bottle carrying case.

I've heard that Woodford Reserve is baller though, and it's the official drink of the Kentucky Derby?

Jameson isn't necessarily the best, but it is my favorite, and a handle will cst you ~50

Opt for a fifth of something better than a handle of something cheaper

He's getting married, not pledging a frat...class it up a little bit

Glenfiddich 15 is a good scotch for about that price, Slave nailed it

If you want to get bourbon get Woodford Reserve. Knob Creek has been suggested in this thread and it's good, but it doesn't touch WR imo

The advantage of going with Woodford Reserve is that it's basically the best bourbon you can get in many places

Bourbon tops off earlier in price than scotch does. WR, as far as bourbon goes, is about as good as you're going to do -- plus it's in your budget. If you wanted to get something that's as good for scotch as WR is for bourbon prepare to pay a fuckload more

If you're looking for bourbon, Pappy Van Winkles is the top of the line, imo, tho it may be a tad out of your ideal price range

yeah if bourbon i second WR

but will also suggest bookers.

it's heavy at 121 proof, so not suggested if he's not really a bourbon drinker.

however, nice vanilla, cured tobacco, and oak notes.

strong finish.

[Edited on November 11, 2009 at 11:29 AM. Reason : ^also wonderful, but it's like $80]

It's "canadian whiskey" which is its own thing

Canadian club is canadian whiskey.

For bourbon,

Can't go wrong with woodford reserve.

booker's is also phenomenal.

Elijah Craig single barrel is my favorite premium bourbon.

I've never liked scotch, but the OP should have specified what kind of whiskey he was asking about.

I just checked wake county's website, it's up to $54.95 now. Booker's is second to none though.

^ I think it's expensive for the quality. It's not that it's terrible. In fact, it's a pretty good drink. However, it's doesn't stand out in the $25+ dollar range and comes off as mediocre compared to similar offerings at the same price.

Thanks for the help gentlemen. I think he likes both bourbon and scotch, but I know he enjoys Elijah Craig a lot. THought I would try and get something better than that. If its $60, no problem there.

So what's the call for bourbon, Woodford Reserve or Bookers?

And everyone agrees on Glenfiddich 15 for scotch?

you can get a 15 year old macallan fine oak for about 50 too.

neither the macallan or the glenfiddich 15s will dissapoint.

Lagavulin > Glenfiddich

I think I've seen Lagavulin 16 for $60 before.
