I wonder why we didn't make this discovery 40 years ago when we went to the moon.Oh yeah, because we never actually went.
11/13/2009 12:41:55 PM
^maybe because water isnt just sitting on the surface of the moon like a damn swimming pool in your back yard?!

Your local NASA geek is here to shed some light:Two months ago water was found in small amounts on the moon when LCROSS impacted, see this thread for more info:/message_topic.aspx?topic=577312I think what you are seeing on CNN is supposed to be this, which reports that significant amounts have been found. This info was just released.http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewpr.html?pid=29613The reason that water was never found there when astronauts were being sent there was because all of the Apollo capsules landed along the equator of the moon under absolute optimal conditions. The water that was just discovered is at the bottom of a giant crater (Cabeus) that hasn't seen sunlight in billions of years.
11/13/2009 1:26:52 PM
^actually water was detected prior to the impact by a few weeks from another probe. the impact results took time to analyze, and the results are now being published.
