really depends on what you want, and what you are looking to spend

costco/sams club/bjs often will have prefinished and/or laminate flooring for sale and usually for the best price per sqft. (bamboo i think too)

if you just want unfinished solid hardwood then i'm not sure really.

There's that lumber liquidators somewhere in raleigh. Don't know anything about them. There's also some place around here that imports the crazy exotic woods that killed numerous native peoples as they dragged it out of the Amazon or something.

all bamboo is laminate (technically all the strips are laminated together length wise)

*shrug*

mmmm you want south american bog blood wood then

comes from ancient trees that long ago fell into a bog and have been marinated for many hundreds of years in peat and bog water along with the blood of countless FARC rebels

my sister got her floors from lumber liquidators. she spoke with a guy named Tyler that was really, really helpful. she was having trouble putting down the first floor she bought because it wasn't snapping together right so she returned it. he let her return all the flooring, even the pieces with glue already on them for a full refund and then gave her a deal on a new floor as well.

i'll probably make my first stop there when i decide to actually put hardwoods in my house.

i bought unfinished 2-1/4 x 3/4 red oak from lowes. its comes in ~20ft^2 bundles. its usually ~$50/bundle. i've never actually seen it, but read on the lumber liquidators website that their stuff is generally end run/irregular/otherwise reject material.

the unfinished stuff is rough cut and neither flat nor straight, so you should purchase it a couple of weeks in advance and let it acclimate to the room it will be installed in. so far i've got about 80ft^2 installed, maybe another 20ft^2 to go. i didn't rent the nailer and coupled with the fact that i had to pull out some existing flooring so that i can lace the new back in, its been slow going.
