First, I'd like to say, "fuck you all" in advance for the fact that you (TDUB) will not understand the quality of this work. Secondly, here is the work (Hopefully that is):

Yes, that is real damascus, the most incredible damascus work I've ever seen. The blue anodized titanium is also absolutely gorgeous.

"The blade is 3-1/4 inches of Eggerling Mosaic damascus. The blade pulls are 14K gold. The front and rear bolsters are also Eggerling mosaic damascus and the scales are Pen shell. The shell is dark but sometimes looks like tortoise shell. Fully fileworked liners, backbar and screws. The screws have been heat colored gold and the titanium liners and titanium backbar anodized bronze/gold in color. The bolsters and blade have been hot blued to bring out the pattern. The bolsters have more pattern not seen in the picture that is a darker steel and almost ghostlike in the bolster. Overall length is 7-1/2 inches. This is also a thin knife at about 1/4 thick overall."

Well, considering it's $1600 and one of a kind, it's not really something you'd use as such. There are plenty of better knives for function, this is a handcrafted work of art. I'd be extremely proud to carry an item like this daily. Absolutely beautiful.

Pretty much (Except it's not a "golden knife", it appears to mostly be titanium to me, but maybe blue looks gold to you?).

I think it is bloody gorgeous! That's really an amazing work of art.

I wish I was rich so I could buy it and actually carry it with me daily. And when I say rich, I don't mean millionaire, but 100 millionaire.

Same here. The handle is ok but I dont understand the zebra stripes on the blade. Call me fickle

The reason you don't understand the "zebra stripes" is probably because you don't understand what damascus is and how awesome it is that the damascus was formed into such a pattern. Those "zebra stripes" are not etched into the surface son, that blade is made of two different kinds of metal that have been expertly mixed.

Damascus is essentially a mixture of two metals. You heat them up and pound them together until they've mixed into paper thin layers. You generally make damascus with one hard metal and one semi-hard metal. So the end result is a blade that has two types of metal in it separated by layers. If it is a really random mix, you end up having a knife that cuts well due to the fact that the softer metal flakes off at the edge (On a microscopic level) and the harder metal stays in place, leaving micro serrations. This particular blade is a bit too patterned to do that as much, but this particular knife is really a piece of art that you would collect. As I said before, there are plenty of knives that will perform like this knife will, but they aren't one of a kind and they weren't made with the skill that this was. Anyone in here who has purchased a painting or a piece of jewelery has done the same thing as purchasing this knife. It is simply a piece of art and unlike a painting, it can actually be used as a tool (Although I would not use it for anything but the lightest of tasks).

Note that this is not mine, I did not purchase this item. The image is clearly linked from the maker's website actually. I just wanted you guys to see a piece of art, this guy has some of the best damascus I've ever seen.

This is what more common damascus looks like, which is why I love the pattern on Chuck Gedraitis Knives. This is why the patterns on his knives are jaw dropping.

His knives have some of the best damascus work I have ever seen, hands down. This maker is an artist, just like a painter or a sculptor. Anyone claiming it's stupid to buy it as a tool is absolutely correct, there are many other cheaper knives that will serve such a purpose. But they aren't that finely crafted, they are not one of a kind and they will not gain value as time goes on.

I'm surprised nobody in here has an item that isn't useful. Do you not have a painting, a sculpture, a snow globe or another ornament of some kind? None of those things are useful, yet they can easily cost thousands of dollars. I guess anyone who buys a painting is an idiot because they can't use the painting for anything. That knife is simply a piece of art and unlike a painting, you actually could use it as a knife if you wanted to. Well, I guess a $1600 painting could be used as an eating surface if you needed one really badly, but it wouldn't survive it. That knife would do just fine as a food prep knife, a bag opening knife, a clothing tag removal knife, etc. It would perform those functions without any degradation so long as care was exercised when performing such tasks. A painting, on the other hand, cannot do anything other than sit and be looked at. This is a functional piece of art, which is why I love it more than a painting. While I do not suggest using it in the manner that you'd use a $20 knife and I would not likely use it hard, I would certainly carry the knife with pride if I owned it.

Here's another Gedraitis design:

Here's a Mike Ruth damascus fixed blade. It is awesome, but not quite as awesome as the damascus you'll find in the Gedraitis knives son. Note of course that this is in terms of the artistic quality of the damascus and not necessarily the functionality of it. This Mike Ruth damascus is going to be highly functional due to the way those layers have been mixed. Lots of nice micro serrations.

Here are some Steier damascus knives (Many of Steier's knives use Robert Eggerling Damascus, which is what was used in the first knife I posted):

And while it's not damascus, I wanted to throw in this set of Steier Bowies just cause I love bowies and they have a SUPER NASTY striking pommel. I LOVE IT SON, BOWIES FOR LIFE SON.

Mike Ruth Bowies son.

^ While that first knife wasn't something I'd classify as such, these bowies definitely fall into the category of "butter knives for fags". Look at that super narrow relief edge, these are probably some of the sharper knives you'll come across. It will go through your neck like butter and as a result, it's definitely a butter knife for fags.

Here are some Vox customs. I like these Vox knives because they are more function oriented custom blades with great looking, yet also highly functional, handles. I appreciate all kinds of knives son!

That full flat grind will allow this thing to perform camp tasks extremely well.

I like this smaller Vox Beagle II as well, very cool handle design and I love that pointy striking pommel. I also love how there's no straight run on that edge, it's 100% belly son.

Too bad there are no pictures floating around of some John Fitzen knives. Anybody calling one of those a knife for skinning deer in a gay club is inhaling chlorine gas son.
