or book on download i guess. I'm going to be spending a lot of time in the car the next couple of days. Not looking for anything too heavy, just something entertaining to help pass the time.

You can find just about any book on CD, but good fucking luck with finding it on tape. What do you drive, a 1982 Buick Skylark?

well what are you looking for? what's your past book history like

Get some HP Lovecraft. Chthulu, mountains of madness and The Dunwich Horror (especially Dunwich Horror) are all amazing. Not in the "read moby dick you guys its a classic!" way either. ACTUALLY amazing

For comedy I recommend "Wigfield" by Stephen Cobert, Amy Sedaris and some other dude.

Stephen Hawking's "A Briefer History of Time" is excellent too

Dune

or "The Hobbit" (IMO the best book and story Tolkien ever wrote)

i was thinking. i should read the sherlock holmes books in honor of the movie coming out. although i understand the new movie is not like the books, i've never actually read the series.

i haven't done any reading in quite a while, actually. here's three books i'm in the middle of, but not really what i'm looking for on a road trip:
a biography of Einstein
brief history of time
Escher, godel, and Bach

the most recent book i read was McCarthy's The Road. I actually read that cover to cover in one sitting. I like lots of different things, from what i can see on the book shelf, i've read Dune, Misquoting Jesus, Catch 22, Narnia, Cancer Ward, The Godfather, Flyboys, Simplexity, and a bunch of other stuff i'm too lazy to walk over and see.

So much for nothing too heavy. I ended up with Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five. But it did pass the time, and introduced me to an author I haven't read before. I may pick up Cat's Cradle sometime.

^^^i've had that book on book for a while, but haven't read it yet.

if you listen to a book on tape/cd/ipod, are you allowed say you've read that book? or are you obligated to add the caveat of "well, actually i listened it on tape/cd/ipod" when discussing books amongst your friends?

It's really good you should read it. and to address your question...I don't know.

I've never listened to a book on tape cause I can't imagine it would be anywhere as good as reading it.

I think you can get that book on DVD as well; rendering the book on book version useless.

Memoirs of a Geisha is good until the last quarter of the book when it becomes ridiculously unrealistic. I hate historical fictions that do that

i read hatchet in middle school.

i started reading "between a rock and a hard place" a while back. its by that guy that had to cut his own arm off with a pocket knife when it got pinned under a boulder. it was okay, but his self righteousness and own deference of good judgement in getting himself into the situation to start with just left me saying "stupid idiot" with little pity for him.

Just downloaded the entire Discworld series as audiobooks (and Ebooks but I don't want to read a novel from my computer, and don't have a reader yet).

I've heard good things about them.

Malcolm Gladwell reads all of his own books for the audio versions.

Blink, The Tipping Point, Outliers. I don't think his latest book is out on audio yet.

World War Z is freakin SWEET, especially read by a full cast.

Also:
Diary by Chuck Palahnouik (adshoihdas spelling? The guy who did fight club)

Pygmy by Chuck Palahnouik (dasdoiherw, kinda difficult to follow at first, because the main character is an Asian foreign exchange student...ish)

Pillars of the Earth. I've forgotten the author of this one, and it's like 32 discs long. But it's really good.

I read pygmy a couple of months ago. You're not kidding about how hard it is to follow. Of all of Palahniuk's works, this was my least favorite.

Pillars of the Earth was written by Ken Follett. good book, read it about 10 years ago.

I third (?) World War Z. Good book.

I'll also add that 'The Hot Kid' was a good one.

^wrong. I listened to that shit on tape and it was horrible. Horrible. A talking monkey, really?

^^^^^ I agree, of all Palahniuk's (I was pretty close) books that I've read, it is also my least favorite. I still thought it was pretty unique though. I definitely don't regret having read it.

And you think it's hard to follow when you're reading it? Try listening to that shit on CD. I totally missed that pig dog Father had a glass eye until like halfway through the book
