So who on here has filed for unemployment? I'm getting let go at the end of January, but I'll be on military orders in March for flight school. I'm planning on filing for unemployment for the month of February....
11/25/2009 7:51:55 AM
My employer did all the paperwork for me. Just be aware that they'll issue a debit card with your money on it, not a check. I almost threw mine away lol
11/25/2009 7:53:34 AM
i was off for two weeks between jobs but it wasnt worth filing all the the paperwork for a less than $1000, hell that wasn't even a quarter of my severance pay
11/25/2009 7:57:56 AM
yeah... I'm getting no severance pay... so, free money is good monies.
11/25/2009 7:59:42 AM
I got approved and just filed my first week's application last nightand you can request direct deposit as an alt to the debit card
11/25/2009 8:00:22 AM
i did when my wife and i moved back to raleigh from dc for her job. i got mine via direct deposit. to save yourself a lot of time, go to the office in cary as opposed to the one off of new bern ave to get signed up. the one off of new bern by wake med is a mess.

You do realize going on unemployment will kill your TS status right?
11/25/2009 9:07:15 AM
what is TS status in chit chat it could mean any number of things
11/25/2009 9:26:10 AM
Top Secret.
11/25/2009 9:35:15 AM
^3 why is that?
11/25/2009 9:38:30 AM
beats me.PRP, Flight Status, TS, S, TS-YW, all have so many stipulations and other bullshit associated with them.
11/25/2009 9:40:12 AM
You can do it all online now. Just make sure you file THE SAME DAY that you get laid off, because it will take 2 weeks to get your first check, and you can't collect on the first week. Also, I recommend having it pre-taxed so you don't have to pay on it at the end of the year. And MAKE SURE YOU DO YOUR WEEKLY CERTIFICATION EVERY SUNDAY! If you don't do it, you can't collect that week.[Edited on November 25, 2009 at 9:41 AM. Reason : a]
11/25/2009 9:41:13 AM
Just take out a loan or get some bullshit minimum wage job.
11/25/2009 9:44:48 AM
11/25/2009 9:48:01 AM
get a job grouch
11/25/2009 11:12:44 AM
i need to get laid offI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.
11/25/2009 11:14:11 AM
^^ That would require an officer (Aircrew mind you) actually getting a job with normal civilians....heaven forbid.
11/25/2009 12:43:13 PM
I think this thread is dead in the water, yo.If this dude is going to flight school, he can't afford to lose clearance. For the record, the reason he would lose clearance is because he's in a financial situation that would make him susceptible to coercion.

11/25/2009 12:55:14 PM
guard bum it
11/25/2009 1:17:17 PM
well thats why i'm in this situation because i'm currently a guard bum and have been since 2005. I've been working ADSW since June...My orders were suppose to be good until I left in march, but the boss said he's gotta cut me early because of the budget, so now I'm done in January. I currently have a Secret, not a TS, but I'll check with the security office Monday on if unemployment does effect that (I'd assume it does if its an extended period of time, but if it's just a month... I couldn't see them denying a clearanc....that shit is all case by case anyways). Typically clearances are only denied because of debt, bankruptcy, or criminal matters. I couldn't see them saying "we can't trust you because you got put out on your ass for a month through no fault of your own."
11/25/2009 2:18:29 PM
I've seen clearances denied for MUCH less than unemployment for a month.
11/25/2009 2:21:32 PM
11/25/2009 2:54:29 PM
11/25/2009 2:56:42 PM
I'd also like to re-itterate the fact that the military is laying me off. I'm ADSW right now (Active Duty Special Work)... meaning I'm on Active Duty orders (Title 32 with the National Guard) for a short period of time: 1 June 2009 - 28 February 2010.However, ADSW orders can be ammended at anytime to an earlier end date. Mine are being ammended to 31 Jan 2010. I would fucking hope to god that the Military wouldn't deny me a clearance because I collected unemployment because they laid me off early.

i herd dat misusing effect will also affect your security clearance.

Seriously though...why go on unemployment, do you want to be on handouts? Get a job or a loan. Flight pay + O pay is more than enough to easily repay a 5,000 dollar loan within a year.
11/25/2009 6:30:50 PM
FUCK U[Edited on November 25, 2009 at 6:33 PM. Reason : not really a handout]
11/25/2009 6:32:52 PM
I'm sorry, but not having the finances saved up to provide for a MONTH of living is weak. Wanting to take a free gov't handout for that?
11/25/2009 6:40:49 PM
i was on unemployment for 4 weeks after my severance package ran out. I miss free monies.
11/25/2009 7:49:48 PM
TS/SCI should pretty much guarantee job security, or at least help you find another job that requires such status more quickly.Unemployment shouldn't have much of an influence as long as you have a valid excuse for being laid off, the duration wasn't long (i.e, involved in a workforce reduction, etc), and you have a couple of references that can vouch for your unemployment and your attempts to find new employment.http://www.clearancejobs.com/]

Going on unemployment will not affect your ability to get a top secret clearance, however if you have already received your clearance and then go on unemployment then I dont know.

I would file for that shit in a second. There is no way in hell I am ever getting a security clearance anyway.

i know so many people on unemployment now it's ridiculous

11/26/2009 9:04:44 AM
you would be surprised as to what they let through security clearancesWhen going through the application process you just have to make sure you are honest about your past. I have a coworker who I never would have thought could have gotten clearance, and he was one of the first ones to get cleared
11/26/2009 9:34:54 AM
I already have a clearance....
11/26/2009 12:01:45 PM
^^^ I'm here for you.
