because my mom is too lazy to get xmas decorations out til at least the middle of december, which also means we don't get a tree til around then. by that point most of the good trees are gone, so you have to pay for a sub par tree that won't even stay up for all that long before it is thrown away. if she'd get the decorations and tree taken care of the first week of december i wouldn't care, but from a cost effectiveness stand point a fake tree will 1) look a hell of a lot better than the trees my parents settle on and 2) eventually pay for itself
