Apparently it is illegal to text/e-mail or read text/e-mail while driving. You can check it while stopped, but if caught checking this stuff while driving, you can get a $100 fine....Starts tomorrow.

I get the texting ban, because that shit is just downright unsafe. But the whole license plate frame ban is rediculous. It's just another reason for police to be able to pull you over to try to catch you doing other illegal shit.
11/30/2009 10:53:54 AM
dc has a whole cell phone while driving ban. you have to be hands free or they will pull you over.
11/30/2009 10:55:06 AM
^ NY does too
11/30/2009 10:55:44 AM
wait- what?so you can't have the NCSU frames around your license plate anymore?and for the record, I hate texting when driving, but how do they know you are doing that and not, say, changing a song on your ipod (I have an iphone so they really would have no idea)[Edited on November 30, 2009 at 10:56 AM. 11/30/2009 10:56:14 AM
Florida doesn't but some cops will slap you with reckless driving if they see you doing it.regardless, won't this be incredibly hard to prove?

Man my inspection was due in April and I've been driving around with old stickers for 7 months
11/30/2009 10:58:53 AM
^ whoops
11/30/2009 10:59:37 AM
so how the fuck is this going to be enforceable?
11/30/2009 11:01:21 AM
11/30/2009 11:04:04 AM
the license plate thing is stupid. you can almost always tell the state by the plate design and even if it's partially covered, you can still tell. Now, if the state/stickers were completely covered, I'd understand. this is just another way to allow LEOs to get in your business and a revenue source for the government.ban on texting/email while driving is fair
11/30/2009 11:09:18 AM
11/30/2009 11:12:40 AM
at least we don't live in NY, where they're releasing a new license plate design and requiring everyone to buy it. That's right, it's mandatory you don't have a choice.

11/30/2009 11:42:35 AM
I just don't see how they are going to be able to tell just by seeing you driving...I mean I guess some people it's obvious cause they hold it right up at the wheel
11/30/2009 11:42:48 AM
you can look at the car and tell, you can look inside the vehicle laterits gonna be easily enforceable im tellin you that right now

11/30/2009 11:51:16 AM
man, my license plate frame is the last NCSU thing I have on my car.
11/30/2009 11:51:31 AM
although, I guess I could cut off those 2 pieces that are covering part of North Carolina.
11/30/2009 11:52:46 AM
^well, that's the last thing I'd be worried about, if I were you. You can't even read your tag numbers!
11/30/2009 11:55:00 AM
ha, if they pull you for that, they're bored. I still have the toyota frame from the dealership on mine and it covers the lower 1/3rd of North Carolina. Which I believe the state frame on the other truck covers it too.[Edited on November 30, 2009 at 11:55 AM. Reason : ]

11/30/2009 11:58:55 AM
Well I guess it's a good thing I don't text much when I drive anyway. It's going to be hard to break the habit of checking a text when I get it while I'm driving though.
11/30/2009 11:59:05 AM
Thank God!
11/30/2009 11:59:37 AM
As long as it's okay to browse Facebook while driving I won't be too upset.

NY state has had this shit for years. People talk on the phone and txt. It's just rarely enforced where I live, though i imagine its different in NYC

11/30/2009 12:53:33 PM
I don't think the penalties for texting while driving are severe enough. Summary execution perhaps?

Just say you were browsing the internet.Loophole FTW.
11/30/2009 12:58:09 PM
also i read an interview with someone (city manager or sheriff maybe, i forget) where he basically said he realizes the enforcement of a twd ban is unenforceable but that he said its about the point that the ban makes and that he believed nc has plenty of law abiding citizens that will obey the ban
11/30/2009 12:58:58 PM
Yeah, it's tough to enforce, mainly because talking while driving is still legal. You could always just say you were dialing your phone, not texting.[Edited on November 30, 2009 at 1:01 PM. Reason : a]
