12/6/2009 6:39:28 PM
is that like Wal-Mart??
12/6/2009 6:40:31 PM
loli dunno we should ask the teacher!
12/6/2009 6:40:54 PM
"WHY IS MY KID STUPID?"
12/6/2009 6:41:08 PM
THEN WHO TEACH KID???

12/6/2009 7:48:07 PM
^^^HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
12/6/2009 7:49:36 PM
There's nothing about mambagrl that isn't scary. She's got some pretty fucked up views about the world.
12/6/2009 8:18:54 PM
why don't you list said "scary" viewsviews most of your leaders would agree on
12/6/2009 8:23:59 PM
12/6/2009 8:26:56 PM
Holy shit I have better things to do than list your weirdisms. Like punch kittens. And litter.
12/6/2009 8:50:28 PM
I'm glad you are now a teacher. You have no place in finance.Elementary school, I hope?
12/6/2009 8:52:27 PM
^^no if you want to air it out then air that shit out. Or are you just scared to expose your selfish uber conservative views in front of all these college students?^High school. I did well in finance but it was not my passion.
12/6/2009 8:57:00 PM
^ Can I buy you dinner while I'm in Raleigh, mambagrl?
12/6/2009 8:59:28 PM
optimum wants ot punch a litter of kittens. ooooohrahhhh for him
12/6/2009 9:00:57 PM
She's accusing a gay man of being a selfish uber conservative. ahahahahahahaMy work here is done.
12/6/2009 9:02:06 PM
reason #5billion why I don't want kids and even if I did I wouldn't put them in public school
12/6/2009 9:38:26 PM
for all you know I may work at a very prestigious private school. I'm not sayin' but I'm just sayin'
12/6/2009 11:33:25 PM
^^now, THAT is an entirely different situation. Kids develop so much essential skills in public schools...unless you're saying private over public school as opposed to home schooling.
12/6/2009 11:40:11 PM
^^To dodge NCLB?
12/6/2009 11:40:59 PM
AMTEACHERI
^^^private school, definitely but kids are gross, so fuck having kids
12/6/2009 11:48:23 PM
I just read this ^we should get hitched, you'd get all the altitude of children with little of the attitude
2/9/2010 5:07:28 PM
ahahahaha, calling optimum an uber conservative. that's offensive to me!
2/9/2010 5:20:31 PM
oops, I missed that. That is pretty funny, he seems like a chill dude.
2/9/2010 5:24:45 PM
I do regret trying to e-game mambagrl. The sad part is, I apparently don't meet her standards, which, viewed optimistically, means I'm not retarded enough.
2/9/2010 5:31:42 PM
yeah son, that's a dude you were e-gaming. everyone knows its a dude. i'd regret that too i suppose.
2/9/2010 5:35:37 PM
Ugh, it's MSN Chat all over again.
2/9/2010 5:36:36 PM
just putting this out there....private school teachers don't have to have a license to teach...a private school can hire anyone they see fit to teach a classroom....that's how those private schools can get away with having a science teacher that thinks fossils were put on earth to test our faith. Not making accusations on anyone here...just saying that private school isn't always a great option...[Edited on February 9, 2010 at 6:12 PM. licenses in public schools clearly aren't making a difference anyway.
2/9/2010 7:12:22 PM
They are, just maybe not the difference you want them to. In the absence of licenses, teacher quality would decline even more. The quality of training a teacher has very often goes to the overall quality of education in a system. If you want to see that, correlate schools with the highest percentage of teachers who have passed their National Boards to overall school performance. Also, take a look at the schools in Finland, which are consistently rated among the best in the world. Every teacher there has to have a Master's Degree, which is a big part of the reason they perform as well as they do.Now, if you feel that the licensing process is not strict enough to ensure that those who have it are better than those without, I guess that's a separate argument, but I think it is incorrect.
2/9/2010 7:19:22 PM
licenses haven't helped anything, they are a false metric to make people feel better.if you really want teachers to improve there should be a longer probationary period for teachers and teachers should be rewarded for performance, not test grades and tenure. teachers should be given more flexibility as well.one major advantage that teachers in finland has is very litte state control of curriculum and basically no standardized testing. finland is not a good comparison to the US, it is everything we are not.
2/9/2010 7:28:54 PM
^Just thank NCLB for that...Blaming teachers for the poor quality of schools isn't the way to go...[Edited on February 9, 2010 at 7:40 PM. Reason : ]

Both of your points about Finland are accurate, but I think that the qualification level for teachers is a significant part of their results. I don't think you could have a lack of state control until you have highly qualified teachers. If you don't have talented teachers in those classrooms, then giving them the high degree of independence they have (which I really envy) would backfire in many cases.Measuring performance often comes down to a subjective measure. I don't agree with NCLB, but I understand the idea being an objective measure in the form of a test. I have had three different principals in 8 years, and countless APs. They each had different criteria for evaluating their staff, some better than others. The best thing I can compare it to is grades. Two teachers from different classes may grade very differently, with one basically giving all the kids Cs or better, and another who grades very severely, based on a different set of expectations. The license itself doesn't mean much, but I would much rather have a teacher who has been forced to jump through the hoops required to obtain the license as opposed to someone who is just a lateral entry teacher with no training, all other things being equal. The best example I can give of that is those teachers who apply for their National Boards. Most of them will tell you that the process they went through is what made them better, having to review their methods in the detail required to submit the different parts of their portfolios.I would support making teacher licensure a more vigorous process, requiring more expectations for renewal. I'm totally supportive of teacher flexibility, but the reality is that won't happen until we have enough qualified teachers that they can take the ball and run with it effectively.[Edited on February 9, 2010 at 7:57 PM. ^good posting.Oh yeah, mambagrl, please never reproduce. Your ideas/ideals are scary enough without a little you.

Education programs are pretty much a joke. The idea itself "training" someone how to teach is a joke. It wasn't until I became exposed to our teacher education programs and the things covered in them that I began to realize how broken education in America is. Its the people that value this "training" that continue to hold quality teachers back. I do admit, since starting a masters program, it is much better which may support your finland claim. Licensure is a piece of paper and most of the teachers that hold it have no idea how to actually teach. Most of what is being taught is how to follow directions. Theres a slim minority of teachers that actually have a grasp on teaching critical thinking skill that lead to actual learning. Teaching is a talent, not a skillset.
2/9/2010 8:00:55 PM
your teaching ideashistory of the USEstate taxI could probably find more, but those are just off the top of my head.
2/9/2010 8:04:35 PM
^none of that is new or unique, infact all the ideas you listed already have some type of legislature.

2/9/2010 8:15:54 PM
Still shows that you are a fucking retard.I had "prove" instead of shows, but that isn't proper science. I guess I could say we all had a theory that you are a fucking retard and that you are proving it to all of us. Though, I doubt you teach any scientific method, as it is old and doesn't have any basis in today's society.[Edited on February 9, 2010 at 8:33 PM. Reason : .]
