Hi, I'm sawahash and I am a clutterer.

So I've come to realize that I probably have a problem (understatement of the year ).

I tend to live in a very cluttered enviornment. I'm not saying that I enjoy it much, but I can live with it, it doesn't bother me, but I am embarassed for other people to see it so I will clean whenever I am expecting company.

My mess isn't like hoarders bad, but it's pretty bad. Anyone who has seen my car can verify this.

Anyway, how do y'all keep clean and organized? Are there any reformed clutters out there that have tips on how to change your life style as to not be cluttered.

As anyone who is in the same position as I am will say, it's not as simple as you would think to just put stuff up in a certain place.

I accumulate shit for months, then just throw 90 percent away, without much of a cursory check

You just get sick of the mess after a while, even if individual aspects of the mess are worth holding on to

It would be like someone who loved to give head getting forcibly face raped by gunzz in the back of a Contour on the the third floor of the Dan Allen deck...it would turn you off from cock for the forseeable future

^^aha yeah too bad they don't prescribe a medicine to take so that I can become a neat and organized person...

^That's basically what I do. I let it build up until I can't take it anymore and then I go on a throwing away spree....unfortunately my tolerance for it is much higher than other people.

For me if I was to have my room organized it would still look messy to other people

imo there is a difference between messiness and clutter. when i think of a messy person i think like dirty - like dishes everywhere and just yuckiness.

with clutter i kinda mean i have stacks of magazines that are like 3 years old because what if i need something in them someday?!? and i save all of my school stuff because what if i need those notes again someday?! same with clothes - MAYBE I WILL WEAR IT AGAIN SOMEDAY

^^ I do this with materials (and scrap materials), parts and broken things with useful parts, and broken things that can be fixed if needed...

Of course I have a ton of this shit and hardly any of it is useful when I actually need it because it is buried.

Yeah i'm disogranized and naturally messy. And my mom is like the most organized and cleanest person in the world.

So whenever my mom comes to my place she's always like "HOW CAN SOMEONE LIVE LIKE THIS!" even if I've just cleaned.

That's exactly how my mom is.

Whenever she comes to visit me and my dad, I will clean the whole house and think man this place looks great....she will come in and be like "I'm not coming back if this place looks as messy as it does next time"

Then I'm all like DOH!

I pretty much have a room to contain it at the moment. I really want to clean out the room but when I start it never exactly works.

Just sayin....

That shit gets VERY annoying VERY quick when you live with someone. When you move from 'my space' to 'our space'. My girlfriend is like this...

I really don't understand how she seems to have no concept of "I share a living space, so maybe I should keep it clean"

I, too, am a clutterer.

I have been selling a ton of junk and taking a ton of junk to thrift stores lately though.
Sometimes I try to look at a problem area and say "I'd pay $150 for this to be clean"; then I look at all the shit in there and if it's worth less than $150 it actually makes sense to take it all to the thrift store. That has helped some although it doesn't do much good for things with sentimental value.

I'm somewhat of a hoarder which creates clutter.

I hate when other people clean up my stuff, because then I won't know where anything is. I always know where I put things, even if its in a mess.

I always know where shit I don't need right now is but can never find it when I do need it

Like I could probably find my skis in 5 minutes, but it would take me an hour to find my timberlands

I'm a clutterer. It annoys the crap out of me but I have soo much stuff.

Over Christmas break, I'm determined to get this shit cleaned up.

[Edited on December 8, 2009 at 5:21 PM. Reason : ^I'm cluttered as fuck, but 95% of my stuff I can locate within a minute.]
