I saw some of the amazing things you do with paper. Would you briefly describe how you accomplish such feats?

Wow, I got my own questions thread! This could be fun.

Quote :
"Is your hair still blue and long? I think it was purple at one point"

My hair is still long, but it's not dyed anymore. My favorite look was when it was solid blue except for purple streaks in the very front. I've considered redoing it many times but have never gone through with it. I don't think it would be an official "issue" where I work, but we always have clients and government officials in the building, so I'm always mindful of that.

I'm not sure if there's a way to answer this question on TWW without it coming across as douchy. Some smart folks on here have been ridiculed for posting theirs before.

Even this deflection is probably a little douchy. What do you think?

Just waiting for the holidays to begin so I can take some time off. Thinking about playing some Rock Band this afternoon, maybe watching some True Blood (it's my newest show, so I'm still playing catch-up with it).

Quote :
"are you drunk/??? cuse I am"

Naw, I only had one drink last night. I'm going to a Christmas party tonight though, so I might be later.

Quote :
"Would you wash your laundry with Kramer?"

Sure! He looks tall, so it might get confusing as to whose pants are whose; on the other hand, you could probably guess that the black ones are mine and he gets all the others.

Quote :
"Have you ever used the word "awesomer?""

Yes, probably as part of the phrase "more awesomer." I'm not afraid to take grammatical liberties.

Quote :
"Who did you relate to more in LOTR?"

I had a medieval-themed wedding, and since I have long blonde hair, I wore it with part of it pulled back and with a little braid on each side, like Legolas.

But realistically, I'm so tall and skinny that I probably most closely resemble an Ent.

My grandparents lived in Japan for a few years back in the 50's and had a lot of Oriental decor in their home, so they encouraged me when I was little to get into making origami. I've always regretted not taking a few design courses while I was at NCSU or spending more time expressing my creative side, so every once in a while I just get an itch to make something artsy.

Both of the pieces I posted in the "What did you make?" thread are from Japanese animated movies, and are made entirely from paper and glue. It mostly entails many hours bent over a cutting mat with an exacto knife; I prefer it to scissors. All the precise folding takes as much patience as skill; with experience, you get a good intuition for which pieces are most important to be a perfectionist about to make sure the entire thing comes out fitting together nicely and looking good.

My first non-origami papercraft project was actually a template one of my friends linked to me that was a little cut-out Ceiling Cat. http://tubbypaws.blogspot.com/2008/03/meow-you-can-has-lolcats.html

I'm not sure if I've seen them; was she wearing them in any of the corset pictures she posted recently? I'm not Facebook friends with Ms. Lubbers, so I don't know where such pics have been displayed.

In general though, I'm not usually a big fan of lacy or frilly clothes. My tastes are usually pretty minimalist.

I'm gonna go hunt down that shark, or whatever it is... and hopefully kill it. I don't know how yet. Maybe dynamite.

here are the tights she wants.

Too bad about the IQ answer.

When you get famous, can you tell people that you somewhat once knew a girl named Amna Warner? and can I get some cash for Maya's college fund, like $300?

OK, now that I see what you're talking about, I like those! They're fun. I think my general beef with lace is that it tends not to be very soft, and then my beef with frilly stuff is that it distracts from the shape of a woman's curves. Those tights look like they'd still be soft, and they're form-fitting, so they pass my tests.

I'm not sure if I ever want to be famous. I hope I'll be successful, but I don't need famous. But I'll be sure to let people know about Amna Warner.

At the moment, I don't have a lot of time to play video games.

I've been working my way through The Last Remnant for about six months, because I only get a chance to play it every 3-4 weeks. When I do, though, I usually play it all day on a Saturday for about 8 hours at a stretch. It's a long game!

When I need short breaks from doing stuff, I usually reach for some flavor of Guitar Hero or Rock Band. We also just got Katamari Forever, and that's pretty conducive to short play sessions as well.

Hopefully I'll have more time in the spring, because I have Disgaea 3 that I haven't even started. I also want to try Demon's Souls at some point, and I'm fully prepared to drop out of life once Final Fantasy XIII comes out in March.

I have GH1, 2 and 3 for Playstation 2. I've also got Rock Band 2, GH: World Tour and GH: Metallica for Playstation 3.

My favorite is probably GH:WT because it works on my TV without any lag, and I have a hard time calibrating the other games to make them play really well. So it's most satisfying to play that one, but I like having more difficult metal songs on the Metallica version.

RB2 has a TON more downloadable content that's really good compared to GH, so it's continually rising higher in the standings by virtue of having a better music selection. I can play almost 300 songs right now on RB2 without having to change discs or any hassle, so that's pretty solid.

does downloadable content work with Rock Band 1?

or is there a specific set of DLC for Rock Band 1, and another specific set for RB2?

All the DLC that was available for RB1 before RB2 came out is usable in RB2 as well. Also, virtually all of the songs from RB1 can be imported into RB2 so you don't have to change discs; I think there's only 3-4 songs that you can't import because of licensing restrictions. You don't even have to own a copy of RB1; you can borrow a friend's disc, and you just buy a code on the Playstation store for $5 that lets you copy the songs over.

That's one really nice thing about RB that you can't do with GH for the most part; I think GH only lets you import the Death Magnetic album from Metallica into GH:Metallica if you bought it on GH:WT.

I bet you can't import shit onto the Wii version

the Wii seems to suck for rock band

it especially suck on the Beatles Rock Band where you can't play the b-side medley to Abbey Road all as one track

because the Wii's memory can't handle it

fuck the stupid Wii

Tomorrow I have truck insurance due, an apartment to clean and a hot date tomorrow night. That said, I may sadly forget to wish you a Happy Birthday therefore I will take this time to wish you a Very Happy Pre-Birthday with all of the thrills and benefits of the actual, yet punctual, gesture. I suppose I do have one question though. Where the hell are you living nowadays? Last time I talked to you you were in Texas (I am pretty sure) and were coming back to Raleigh.

^^ Sounds like a busy day tomorrow, then. I probably won't get to celebrate tomorrow either, because I have a lot of work to get done this week before taking off for the holidays.

We were back in NC for about 9 months from Jan-Sep in 2008. But now we're living in Santa Monica, CA.

^ I know how to cook and can make some things pretty well, but my repertoire is limited. I love watching cooking reality shows like Top Chef, Hell's Kitchen, The Next Iron Chef, etc, but I don't always have a lot of time to experiment in the kitchen. My wife also likes cooking more than I do, so she almost always does it. But I can make a mean Thai curry.

What are your favorite things to cook that I should learn how to make?

^^But you like Top Chef way more than Hell's Kitchen, right? Please?

When making Howl's Castle model, did you color the pieces of paper before attaching them to the model, or do you pain everything afterwards?

Mmm, cumin [yes, please]. I also really like making Cuban black beans and rice with onions and peppers, garlic, cumin, chili peppers, and a bit of lemon and lime juice.

Yeah, Top Chef is better. Top Chef Master's was the bomb. Generally I like shows better with the more skill and creativity that the chefs are able to display. Hell's Kitchen is on the low end of that scale, since they aren't all the greatest cooks and 90% of the time they're constrained to making what's on the restaurant menu.

On both of those papercraft models, the design is printed out on the paper beforehand. There's no paint involved at all; wet paint would compromise the structural integrity of the paper.

I just realized that it's clearly printed on the paper.

Did you design the actual papercraft layout yourself, or can you find it online somewhere?

If you did design it, what process do you go about in doing it?

I didn't design those, although I've done some other projects of my own. If you have a 3D model that's been built using any number of programs, you can use a program called Pepakura to generate the cuts and folds that can be used to convert it to a papercraft project. It can take some work and tweaking to make a good model, but there are a lot of tutorials online that can get you started if you're interested in trying it. Just google Pepakura. There's also a papercraft forum on 4chan that, despite being 4chan, occasionally has useful information on it.

The Howl's Moving Castle was from a Japanese book that came out when the movie was released. It's pretty rare to find now since it's out of print and the books get cut up during use.
