Ok, so i have a one month mandatory rotation coming up this summer. minimum 4 weeks with a minimum of 160 hoursi drew out of the lottery to pick from the list of approved preceptors....96 out of 115 this means theres little chance im gonna get the cary or raleigh ones.therefore i need to find a pharmacy in the area and go talk to them to see if they will adopt me for one month......the ones on the list are mostly big chain pharmacies.you guys know of any cool mom and pop places that i could possibly work a this summer?

my best friend went to pharmacy school @ UNC. She interned at CVS, but also did her rotations at a VA hospital, lab/clinic that researched blood thinner medication (I think she just sat and pricked fingers all day ), and she even worked @ Duke for awhile (can't remember what she did).
12/14/2009 12:21:11 PM
yeah-retail is this summer.hospital rotations next summerclinical the summer after thatthen my whole p4 year is nothing but 4 or 5 rotations in different places. but i dont want to commute to fayetteviile or some shit for a month this summer

12/14/2009 12:27:54 PM

12/14/2009 12:31:52 PM
i worked at burton's pharmacy in downtown greensboro for 5 years. if you wanna make the drive...i highly suggest you go there. i know frank burton like a father.anyways, if you have the choice, go to an independent pharmacy, not a chain. ive worked in both, and the independents will be a much better learning experience.
12/14/2009 12:32:15 PM
falls river pharmacy
12/14/2009 12:34:05 PM
i would MUCH rather intern at an independent pharmacy.im gonna go around hopefully next week and talk to people about adopting me i wanted to see any suggestions from you guys [Edited on December 14, 2009 at 12:38 PM. Reason : ^sweet, ill check it out! ]
12/14/2009 12:38:44 PM
Yeah, Joie, I remember my friend had to go out to towns like Lumberton for a month for her rotations that whole last year. she hated living out in these small towns! But she loved her roomies.
12/14/2009 12:48:11 PM
What's the one in 5points?Hayes-Barton or something like that?
12/14/2009 12:49:11 PM

12/14/2009 12:50:33 PM
quietly used to work in the CVS pharmacy. Maybe ask her for an in.
12/14/2009 12:51:35 PM
thie thing ismost of the CVS's and Walgreens and rite aids (among other chains) are in my preceptor list.meaning they have agreed to take students.when we drew the lottery we were drawing in what order we would be able to pick off of the list.i cant go to the ones already on the list and ask for an in because they've given all of their spots to the list.if that makes any sense.[Edited on December 14, 2009 at 12:53 PM. Ashworth in downtown Cary is pretty cool, it's like going to Mayberry. It even has a soda fountain, and they make some tasty sandwiches.[Edited on January 7, 2010 at 4:04 PM. Reason : ^truth. Pharmacy student, interning at a pharmacy, none of this adds up at all.]

I am so proud of my heterosexual e-partner! the next time I decide to get a gigantic piece of cake at HB, I'll stop in the pharmacy and say WASSUP GIRL

Sounds like you're already set, but for future use...http://www.owdna.org/History/history22.htmMcDonald's Drug Store in Durham - I have no idea if these folks are still running the store, but this place was super laid back about 9 years ago. They had an awesome lunch counter and always made me cherry cokes. Very good people.n/m...Googled and found this:

I doubt my moms pharmacy takes interns but its in winston-salem and would be super easy. its part of Novant health. I know we used to take interns at the main pharmacy (forsyth hospital) when I worked there. Some of the meanest college girls I ever encountered .

1/7/2010 4:51:25 PM
after hearing a friend of mine got a 30k signing bonus to lock in 2yrs with cvs on top of the already nice pharmacist salary - i'd go with a chain
1/7/2010 5:19:25 PM
Joie are you going to hook me up? I need more meds than my family doc writes scripts for, but I don't want to go back to a pain clinic
1/7/2010 5:22:08 PM
You might want to PM hgtran. He finished up at UNC pharm about a year ago and as I recall was also screwed with his lottery number.
1/7/2010 5:23:39 PM
^^Why don't you earn your hydro's/oxy's the old fashioned way and get down on your knees in some alley?
