I went out for lunch and picked up a 6" sub at Harris Teeter. Then come back to the office to find an extra Jersey Mike's boxed lunch leftover from a training session.Solution?Eat both of course. God I'm such a fatty /blog

your first mistake was not getting jersey mikes to begin withbut you made up for it by eating both. well done

Mikes = $$$HT = $making homemade subs every day as opposed to purchasing a sub EVERY DAY = ¢

sort of sandwich meat do you use for homemade subs?[Edited on December 16, 2009 at 1:17 PM. Reason : just curious]
12/16/2009 1:17:23 PM
Wal-mart's giant super subs are the best 5.98 one can spend. It lasts for at least 3 lunches, 4 of them if you cut them right.
12/16/2009 1:18:13 PM
^^ you can buy packages of sub sammich meat and all you do is take out a row or whatev and place it on the sub (ham, turkey, roast beef)BUTyummier ones involve actually getting deli sliced meat.i like a spicy meat and turkey.
12/16/2009 1:20:01 PM
^^^I wonder as well.^^^^no way you can concoct something equivalent to the $2.99 sub at HT for less.^that's not comparing the same things. We're not talking meat on a roll. We're talking daily fresh baked bread, fresh sliced meat and cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, etc etc.[Edited on December 16, 2009 at 1:21 PM. Reason : k]

lunch condom
12/16/2009 1:22:21 PM
^^ whatever's on sale at HT (meat and cheese wise). then a head of lettuce, a tomato, a cucumber, a red onion. a bag of discounted hoagie rollsmakes a work week's worth of lunches (and one for the weekend) for about $11.
12/16/2009 1:23:37 PM
Target has good lunch meat. 1lb. for $4
12/16/2009 1:23:42 PM
^^^^ well get some yummy sliced meat from the deli and some yummy cheesesbuy some veggiesand you can get fresh sub rolls at harris teeter from their bakery sectioni mean, after the first day they won't be fresh anymore (i mean as in baked that day, obviously still edible though!)[Edited on December 16, 2009 at 1:24 PM. I'm not arguing you can't make a cheaper sub. But for the very small cost (less than $1/day) of buying a significantly tastier sub at HT instead of taking the time each morning to make it yourself you can't beat it.
12/16/2009 1:27:39 PM
but but but but but.....the meat they use at the HT deli counter is Boar's Head!!!!!!! and I can really tell the difference!!!!!!!!!!!!Sincerely,The people who use Patron in their margaritas and Ultimat in their bloody marys
12/16/2009 1:27:42 PM
You can get any footlong double meat sub at HT for 2.99 by peeling the sticker off before you check outThe default sleeve is programmed to ring up at 2.99, the "sub of the day" price, and the put a new sticker on if you get something elseSo you can get a double roast beef footlong that would normally be 6.99 by subtlely peeling off the sticker between the deli counter and check out lineThis lesson in unethical cheapness brought to you by Slave T. that's the best thing about deli couters...several times, I've gone up and said "I want 6 slices each of smoked turkey, pastrami, honey ham, and roast beef and 10 thin slices of swiss. thank you."

you obviously eat liverwurst and rectum turkey

Jack Daniels had free lunch today for Xmas. Anything on the menu, free

Krogers got amazing deli meats.. Boars head Blazing buffalo chicken is really good...

Wal-Mart.1 Pound Roasted Pepper Turkey.1 Pound Pepperjack (both from the deli fresh-sliced mind you)Loaf of cheap multi-grainDeli mustardMayoTomatoAvocado when cheaper or in seasonApply to bread when desired. Boom delicious. There was a time when I was buying those GIANT subs from Wal-Mart that are sometime as cheap as 4-5 dollars, whoever was talking about that earlier. Not the best meat, but a TON of it, a STUPID amount of meat, and it fills you up.

HT is switching to Boar's Head. Also:
12/16/2009 2:30:44 PM
^^^don't feed the evil machine.Tim, you said the deli meat's on special. If you're getting 5 different kinds of meat not a chance they're on special^^I hear you Stein. And you better damn well believe you can taste a difference, ugh.
12/16/2009 2:33:22 PM
i dunno. i live off of sandwiches (not necessarily subs) while i'm at school and they definitely cost me less than eating out. i don't necessarily mind the lack of variety. i'm down with a turkey, bacon, avocado and cheese sandwich 3 times a week. then the other 2 days i can do something else. even just a veggie sandwich is good.
12/16/2009 2:33:47 PM
12/16/2009 2:37:10 PM
I regularly pay ~$10/lb for lunch meat and generally get at least 2 lbs.I feel no shame in this.
12/16/2009 2:37:28 PM
^ i feel you. except i care more about my bread and cheese. i mean i still care about my lunch meat, duh, but bread and cheese are my jam.
12/16/2009 2:39:41 PM
^no offense, but you're a tiny girl. We're big guys and a little dainty sandwich on white bread isn't gonna cut it.
12/16/2009 2:43:09 PM
12/16/2009 2:48:08 PM
^^ ewww white bread!but yea i guess i get what you are saying(although i do eat a lot. do not be fooled)
12/16/2009 2:48:53 PM
I'll give you a footlong doublemeat.
12/16/2009 2:49:03 PM
12/16/2009 2:49:59 PM
^lol, yeah if that thread had been near the top I would have just put it on there. However I always wanted to make a thread with the word "conundrum" in the title^^^wheat bread, whole grain, whatever. Same size.
12/16/2009 2:52:06 PM
i love Jersey Mikes, but the one thing about it that always grosses me out is how the sandwich makers will cut your bread, meat, cheese barehanded, pick up that wet rag to clean off the veggie station, and then immediately pick up the lettuce, onions, etc with the same hands
12/16/2009 2:55:51 PM
^^not necessarily- if you get the deli or "gormet" bread, it is usually a lot wider than standard bread. I use standard bread for pb&j and toast, but if i want a sammich that is gonna fill me up, I get the wider loaf (that is usually shorter)
12/16/2009 2:57:00 PM
Not to mention pick their nose and go to the bathroom all while never washing said hands. I think one of 'em was even rummaging around down his pants one time. I left before even ordering.
12/16/2009 2:57:05 PM
well, i'm sure most restaurant employees do all that shit and don't wash their hands, but the Jersey Mike dudes pick up that rag RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU before touching all of the shit you're about to eatSubway is nasty, but at least they use gloves
12/16/2009 3:00:23 PM
12/16/2009 3:02:03 PM
^then you're getting to more $$$ stuff and we've come full circle to the beginning of the cost argument. It's like arguing with monkeys I tell ya.
12/16/2009 3:09:52 PM
if you were all vegetarians you wouldn't pay much for sandwiches at all
12/16/2009 3:16:22 PM
Its a Time vs Cost vs Quality argumentHT subs take less time and cost less than sub places, and are comparable in qualitySub place subs cost more than both or the other options, but take less time than making subs and generally slightly higher quality than HTMaking sandwiches at home requires time to buy the ingredients and prepare the sandwiches, and you're limited to a finite amount of choices, whereas with sub places and HT you can get something completely different every daySo in my book, HT is the place to go, unless I really want something different like a Chicken Bacon Ranch or Mesquite Chicken Bacon
12/16/2009 3:17:58 PM
Gotta have bacon though, apparently.
12/16/2009 3:19:00 PM
^^^I wouldn't eat sandwiches either, unless for some reason I enjoyed eating a salad crammed in between two pieces of bread?^^good summary.[Edited on December 16, 2009 at 3:20 PM. Reason : totallly agree]
12/16/2009 3:19:49 PM
Gotta have baconand I'm all for making a mountainous hoagie at the house on a saturday afternoon when the game's on, but fuck spending time every morning during the week hastily throwing together something that I won't eat for four hoursI want my shits fresh
12/16/2009 3:21:12 PM
Nothing worse than a soggy, old sandwich.
