grow up and learn to handle your money properly.
12/28/2009 3:28:29 PM
if its your first time you might be able to get ti waivedcall and ask, the worst they can say is no
12/28/2009 3:29:04 PM
i overdrafted in Vegas by $17i was subsequently charged $245 in Overdraft feesi called Wachovia, and they waived half my fees almost immediately. no bitching required [Edited on December 28, 2009 at 3:29 PM. Reason : it was my first time, and i've been with Wachovia since 2003]
12/28/2009 3:29:24 PM
i once accidentally moved money from checking to savings in my account (instead of savings to checking)for example let's say:...... 1000 in savings...... 100 in checkingi mistakenly got the two confused and transferred 200 from checking into saving, overdrawing my account.i called wachovia and explained what had happened.they refused to waive any fees.i switched the following day.
12/28/2009 3:32:50 PM
$35 is kinda steep for an overdraft fee. What banks would you guys reccommend for savings and checking ?
12/28/2009 3:34:14 PM
wachovia's always been really helpful to me when something fishy has happened. if they did pull some dumb shit like that though i would definitely switch.
12/28/2009 3:34:21 PM
12/28/2009 3:35:56 PM
banks near raleighING... ? where that at ?
12/28/2009 3:37:12 PM
SECU owns all of y'alloverdraft is linked to different account, draws from therecharge is 50 cents
12/28/2009 3:37:25 PM
12/28/2009 3:37:40 PM
^^ thats what i have now ^ i paid for it and was done with it.im not getting in a pissing match over $100 when i can switch and never have it happen again. [Edited on December 28, 2009 at 3:38 PM. Reason : dgfgfd]
12/28/2009 3:37:51 PM
yeah, $35 is ridiculous for an OD fee. add to that the fact that they cleared all my charges with the highest charge first, so that the last 7 charges (that pushed me over) only totaled $17, but they charged me $35 for each of them. when in reality, breakfast on that last morning ($40) is what pushed me over. but they said the charges clear (over a weekend) in order of highest charge first, not first charge made.that whole situation really soured me on Wachovia, but ultimately i let it go. that's the only problem i ever had with them. but it's my own fault for paying all my bills before going to Vegas
12/28/2009 3:38:36 PM
All banks are the same (except credit unions). $35 is pretty standard.
12/28/2009 3:39:47 PM
wait... $35 is the fee? i had an overdraft/unavailable funds fee when i was christmas shopping that was $70! [Edited on December 28, 2009 at 3:40 PM. Reason : wachovia... right thumper?]
12/28/2009 3:39:52 PM
^i had $65
12/28/2009 3:40:06 PM
oh shit, has it gone up? in July it was $35!yup, wachovia.that's nuts.[Edited on December 28, 2009 at 3:40 PM. Reason : .]
12/28/2009 3:40:29 PM
If it was $70, maybe you over drafted twice?
12/28/2009 3:41:05 PM
there is that whole argument for DON'T FUCKING OVERDRAFTi overdrafted once and only once, when i was 16
12/28/2009 3:41:07 PM
i have the way2save savings account as a back up to my checking accountit pays $1 into the savings for every transaction in my checking and i also pay in $25 a monthi only get paid once a month and i put a lot into savings automatically so every now and then i'll overdraw my checking and my savings covers itno fees no problems. i just get a postcard in the mail from wachovia telling me what happenedinitially, i was told my savings was linked as my overdraft protection account and when i overdrew, it wasn't. i called wachovia and they apologized that it wasn't linked and credited me everything. been with wachovia since 1998 or so but i dont think time with them really counts for much
12/28/2009 3:42:33 PM
citibank is awesome about counting all my deposits before the transactions..i've had other banks where if i had $100..then in the same day deposited $500 cash and spent $101, they would count the $101 first..making me go under even though i should have had enough money. complete bullshit.. there's also the bullshit of when it's the last transaction that SHOULD be the one that makes you go under but they turn the order around so you get like 10 OD fees for purchases that are just a few dollars instead of just 1 for the big purchase that actually made you go underanyways. thank god i'm not THAT broke anymore [Edited on December 28, 2009 at 3:43 PM. Question for people who bank with Wachovia / BoA / megabank:What the fuck?
12/28/2009 3:43:05 PM
^ 4 me too. which was the mistake i told you earlier that i still to this day think is bs. (i called them directly after i transferred)now i do it a little more often (usually unintentionally)...because i have a hell of a lot more $$$ in my moneymarket (and thats where it overdraws it from) and i mean a 50 OD fee rocks.[Edited on December 28, 2009 at 3:44 PM. Reason : dgfgd]
12/28/2009 3:43:15 PM
12/28/2009 3:44:02 PM
if i had overdrafted twice it would have shown up on my account as two separate overdrafts. and yeah i should be better with my money. but i'm not. so suck it!
12/28/2009 3:44:23 PM
^no it won't twoozles, it will show up as a flat charge. mine showed up as a flat $245 OD fee.
12/28/2009 3:45:07 PM
meh nvm[Edited on December 28, 2009 at 3:45 PM. Reason : asdf]
12/28/2009 3:45:49 PM
Banks now charge anticipatory overdraft fees.If you run your debit card as credit for three items, and those three items total up to put you in the negative, they will charge you an overdraft fee before the three payments have gone through. Then they send the highest thing through, and hit you with another fee. Then the next one, and hit you with a fee. Then the last, and hit you with a fee.So you end up paying four overdraft fees for three items.Banks are awesome.
12/28/2009 3:46:10 PM
wait, i remember now. mine showed up as a large fee on tuesday (once charges cleared monday night) then a few more charges cleared tuesday night, so another fee showed up wednesday. total fees was $245 but it was broken up over 2 days.[Edited on December 28, 2009 at 3:47 PM. Reason : .]
12/28/2009 3:46:48 PM
the new rules that come into effect like 1/1/10 or 2/1/2010 are that banks/credit cards aren't allowed to charge overdraft fees. they'll just decline the charge or bounce the check.
12/28/2009 3:48:17 PM
the worst is when you use the wrong card for 4 or 5 purchases30 bucks worth of merchandise, 175 in overdraft fees (35 PER OD) ridiculous.
12/28/2009 3:49:20 PM
haha then we'll have threads about being embarrassed at subway because their debit card was rejected for a $4 lunch hahahahahaha
12/28/2009 3:49:50 PM
Overdraft fees are just a shady form of short term lending, with exorbitant interest rates
12/28/2009 3:50:36 PM
hahaha that would be freaking awesome today a girl at Moe's swiped my card and said it wouldn't work. "i gotta call the manager" or whatever. and i'm like, "bitch i have $7 in my account, wtf are you talking about" i immediately got embarrassed like it had been rejected, when in reality she had just forgotten to press a certain button before swiping. getting your card declined in public is so fucking embarrassing.[Edited on December 28, 2009 at 3:51 PM. Reason : .]
12/28/2009 3:50:50 PM
^^^ i'd rather get declined for $4 at subway than pay the $4 plus a $35 overdraft fee ^^ agreed, happened to me once. but it certainly made me think twice about what i was spending [Edited on December 28, 2009 at 3:51 PM. Reason : .]

my credit card gets rejected EVERY YEAR at christmastime.its the damnest thing.last year i bought a bunch of shit (wont get into to how much...just a lot, a lot)went to mcdonalds................rejected. is rejected the right word?i didnt max it out...they put a hold on it b/c they thought it was stolen[Edited on December 28, 2009 at 3:53 PM. 12/28/2009 3:52:30 PM
^^i made lots of large purchases in one day and actually had Wachovia call me to make sure my card wasn't stolen
12/28/2009 3:54:35 PM
when i was still in the process of getting my house, i was going to close with the bank, since i already had accounts with them (we were within days of closing, it was pretty much all done)i gave them a deposit slip with my paycheck, and they put the paycheck in the wrong accountwhen some bills were drafted, it went in the negative, and they charged me for 3 overdraftsi called the bank, and they were all "too bad, blah blah blah"i took in my copy of the deposit slip, they accused me of faking it (it was a carbon copy) and were very rude when i said the mistake was theirsi called the loan officer and told him i would close with someone elsesuddenly the bank called wanting to apologize to me and alli told them until the overdrafts were gone, i was donethey got it all fixed, and then i promptly closed all my accounts with themi got a few calls from the loan officer begging me to close with them, but told him to blame the outstanding teller staff for the troublewithin the month, the teller who messed up and the bank manager who accused me of faking the slip had been fired, but i dont know if it was my situation that did it, or if they hasd a track record of pissing the customers off and losing loans after they already had time and money tied up in them]
12/28/2009 3:54:58 PM
yeah loli have to call them and talk to themthey are always super apologetic but i explain that i LIKE that feature
12/28/2009 3:55:19 PM
my card was rejected several times when i was in greece and italy. it was completely embarrassing because i knew i had money. and i had told my bank i was going out of the country but they still put a hold on my account assuming it had been stolen. i had to borrow money several times because it took forever to call my mom, get her to call the bank, get them to fix it, etc.
12/28/2009 3:55:30 PM
^^That feature came in handy when I apparently tried to withdraw $5000 from an ATM in Romania circa 2005, haha.

12/28/2009 4:17:37 PM
overdraft fees will pretty much be a thing of the past by the middle of next year.
12/28/2009 4:39:11 PM
How about DON"T overdraft? Not a hard concept....
12/28/2009 4:46:39 PM
12/28/2009 4:54:17 PM
My brother works for a bank and we were discussing this over the weekend. He was saying that if they're generally a good customer but either a) made a stupid mistake or b) obviously struggling but deal with him politely, he'll do what he can for them.If they come in to argue . . . yeah, the bill doesn't change.

12/28/2009 5:15:45 PM
I hadn't heard about any legislation to decrease the incidence of overdraft fees. They just got too greedy. If they had stuck to dinging us with ten bucks or so, they coulda had most of our dumbasses for life. But instead they just got obscene with it, and in some instances, figuratively broke some backs of would-be decent customers.Even atheists are like, "Uhhh, I think this is one of those things Jesus was trying to warn us about."Anyway, when your rates are worse than the most heartless loan shark in the neighborhood, there's a problem.
